Zanna had been travelling with Kaz for a while already. While winter still held Fallen Skies in its cold grip, she had never felt this good at winter. The eight year old, hadn't seen much of the World; except from now. Her 'brother' seemed to love his travels and she had made him promise to take her with him and in return she helped him with his work. Work that wouldn't necessarily be seen as legal; as she was a thief. Zanna hadn't been left with much of a choice, caring for herself on the streets or caring for herself on the streets with help while working for another person. Someone who looked the part of being a criminal but had a soft spot for the young girl. In conversations she always called Kaz her brother, to refrain people from asking to much questions. Her only real brother hadn't survived his birth; as he was a stillborn. It was the day he was born that always would be remembered by the young girl. Her long brown hair was windblown, but still neatly kept. As she made sure to take care of it daily, and if she couldn't herself she would ask Kaz to help keep her appearance as she wished it to be. Innocent. The darkness of her life wasn't seen in her eyes at times like this; though sometimes people could see it. If they looked long enough at her and kept her dark brown eyes in their gaze.

Each breath that the small child took was blown out with a bit of force in the open air. Its warmed was forming small clouds that were seen in the cold enviroment. Her darkbrown eyes zoned in upon some citizens of the famous city. D'auvignon, Navarre was totally different from Sunfall, Rhoynar. Her home; or her previous home. It was strange to see another city then she had lived in for the past eight years. She couldn't see any place that she had memorised. Which made it a lot harder to steal anything, besides that everyone acted differently. Not one person seemed to act familiar, except from Kaz. It made it harder to search for possible victims.

Zanna needed money, she was hungry. She didn't have any on her so she had no other option then to steal and hope not to get caught red handed. Teenagers were out of the question, most didn't have money or anything on their body that was of use. Older people mostly did seem to forget to keep an eye out on the enviroment. Were too trusting. Zanna didn't trust anyone besides Kaz. It was dangerous to trust someone while living on the streets. Her tired, innocent eyes found her next victim. She followed her, a young woman somewhere in her thirties; while still seeming to go about her own business.

It didn't take too long for her to pickpocket the poor lady, before hiding her catch. What she did not notice herself was that one had seen her do it and stepped in front of her to keep her from escaping. Zanna searched for a possible escape, a small street she could run into or a busy road that made it easier to hide. One thing she knew for sure, she was in big trouble.  Unless she could disappear and throw away the catch in one street to keep the attention of her. Her long hair, fell into her dark colored eyes before she rushed towards an alley. Her feet pounded fast on the ground, while she threw the catch over her shoulder in front of a shop and tried to find a place to hide. Not noticing that people were yelling for someone to keep her from escaping. "Hold the thief!" She skipped to a halt just in front of a large man, trying to keep out of arms reach, but failing miserably. Her brown eyes looked upwards into the blue ones of the man in front of her and she swallowed. It was a good thing she had thrown away the catch, otherwise it would have been obvious she had been the one they were yelling for. She tried to side step the man and hide behind him; though the others catched up fast. He probably would be told that the girl had been trouble.

.Thriumph Medici.
with flesh and blood, I commanded an army

The cold wind blew across Thriumphs face. Leaving a cutting sensation on his cheeks. Even though the sun had suggested it was going to be a bright and good day, the cold didn’t lie and made the outside more pleasurable to watch from inside, than to be in it. Not that the man cared about that. No, he was mostly outside when the temperatures dropped, and so he was now. He enjoyed how the coldness could sharpen up his stormy mind, which kept him going along the way. And the man needed to be as sharp as possible. Of course, as being king that was quite necessary, but now, at the end of the winter he needed it even more. Not for the big things, like managing his city’s and lands, or for collaboration or hostility between the other countries. It were the small things that ran through his court that he needed to be busy for. For some kind of reason there were little breakings of rules everywhere in his castle. Something that certainly wasn’t something that brought good to his mood. But also in D’auvignon there were rumors of small violations, small incidents which numbers had risen up way too high for his likings. Time for a detailed visit to his own capital, Thriumph thought so.

His horse carried on with an easy pace. Being surrounded by his guards surely made him stand out from the crowd. Looking around the streets of the city to search for any suspicious things that could caught his guards. The man was aware that uprisings always started with the smallest of incidents, so it was an important matter to him that those were stopped as soon as they could. The ice blue eyes scanned around the area, and just as he wanted to go around the corner his eye fell on a little girl. Looking innocent, almost too innocent to be alone in the busy streets of D’auvignon. So Triumph decided to hold still for a moment, holding the girl within his gaze. Being on the horse the man had perfect view on what was happening. And just as he suspected the girl got close to a lady. One of the lady’s that lived around court, being the wife to an important lord to be very exact. A man, in front of her accused the girl of pickpocketing and with that the small girl came in action. Without further notice and doubt Thriumph jumped from his horse, looking for what path the little girl took. Fastening his pace towards the alley the girl seemed to want to go to, he was barely in time to stop right in front of the little girl. Hearing the man shout he looked down into the innocent brown eyes of the girl. His face not so warm and nice. ’Tell me little girl.’ His cold voice sounded, not breaking his gaze with the girl. ’Do you have any family we can go to, together?’ How eager the man was to get very angry towards the little girl he held his calm. For now at least, knowing the source of her behavior would bring him far more than just scaring a little girl.

Zanna didn't dare to move right after she skidded to a halt in front of an impressive looking man. One that had without a doubt noticed her run, trying to escape one of the eyewitnesses. Him yelling about the young thief that was her, wasn't helping anything for sure. Even though the innocent look didn't leave her face; for she sure meant no harm, not really. She knew that the man in front of her looked right through it. His face was cold, stern even.. maybe. At least not warm and nice, if his appearance was anything to go by, she was in trouble. Not even in a little bit in trouble, but in huge trouble. Something that could cost her the trust she had build up with Kaz. He at least knew about her past, small but important parts of her past. He had taken the time to learn her a few of his tricks, though she was still too young to do a lot with it. Other then helping him out every now and then. The man with his icecold blue eyes looked down at her, while she stepped forward slightly, deciding he was probably a better option then the one shouting before. "Tell me little girl." His cold voice sounded, making the young child tremble slightly. Of course she was used to such behavior from Kaz at times; but that didn't mean that she could handle it. Even a girl as young as she was knew the dangers of talking to adults. Especially in her situation as an orphan. An orphan living on the streets and helping a guy like Kaz. A guy that she started to look upon as one would look upon a brother. Probably not brother material really, but for her he meant safety and a roof over her head. "Do you have any family we can go to, together?" He asked without breaking his gaze on her. The young child fidgeted before shaking her head in a negative answer. She appeared to be quite uncomfortable while tears made their pressence known in her deep brown eyes. "None that are alive, sir." She whispered with her soft and warm voice, while adding the last word almost as an afterthought. Zanna didn't know he held a high ranking for sure but it seemed that others did hold him in high regards. Something that the girl instictually reacted upon. One of her tiny hands moved towards his, holding it out as an invitation. Showing him that she would not work against him, allowing him to be the leader that he was. Not that Zanna had much of another option. He was calm, calmer in appearance than most people on the streets and the young child was fearful for fights. Her eyes were trained on the enviroment though she still kept most of her attention on the man in front of her.

It was no secret that a girl her age would normally not be alone. Especially in a city like this. "Excuse me, sir." The youngster spoke her voice soft and low. "Would you mind me asking who you are?" She whispered, almost not daring to move a muscle without his permission  Her stomach rumbled, Zanna was hungry. She hadn't eaten anything in a while and a child her age needed food to grow and survive. Besides that she was scared, Zanna did know a thing or two about living on the streets; but this streets were different from Rhoynar. A lot different, so she didn't know what to expect from its citizens. Especially after taking on such a crime as she did. It was a good thing he hadn't made her extremely uncomfortable because she was quite a shy child. One that was trying to remain out of sight for most people. However life of the streets always took a toll on people her age; especially since they had to take care of themselves. It meant that they had to keep mistakes as hers from happening and if such a thing happend it was better to lay low and work with those that had seen it happen if one could not escape. Besides that the girl was getting scared from the looks that she was getting from all those onlookers. She disliked attention greatly. Especially this kind of attention. Zanna proceeded to step closer to the larger man, trying to search for safety from the scrutinizing eyes of others. Her dark brown eyes flickered to the cold blue eyes, searching for directions. It was clear that she didn't like to speak up. Zanna missed her mother, especially now. No one cared for her like one her age needed. Though somewhere the child cared for Kaz and Kaz maybe even cared for her. It still wasn't a healthy relationship. It had been a while she had been loved by her parents. Her father didn't care as much for her as he did for the pub and getting drunk. Eventually leading in getting himself killed in a fight.

Greed bows to me. It is my servant and my lever.
The job was simple. Something he would have done in about ten minutes. Find a target, anticipate it's movements and strike. Easy as that, right? Then why did it seem that Zuzanna was taking ages to do it? He had taken her age and her experience in mind, but this was just absurd. Kaz looked down at his pocketwatch, his face showing clear annoyance. Had this been a deal he had been too eager to jump into? Maybe Zanna had just run away. He wouldn't blame her, but on the other hand, he made sure she had food and a roof above her head. She seemed so innocent when he had found her, maybe she had fooled him as well. Then she was smarter than he had thought. But still, she didn't seem like the person that would just leave.

Kaz decided to get out of the alley he was waiting at, looking a few times across the street to see if he could spot a small figure moving towards him, before walking towards a busier street, his eyes scanning the crowd. It wasn't much later he found out where she had been. And that she had been caught. For Fuck Sake. He wanted to move forward, scold her and try to make the best of it, until he noticed by who she had been caught. Maybe it was for the best to just leave.
But Kaz didn't. He made her a promise and he wasn't going to break it. But the situation the girl had worked herself into wasn't a pleasant one. Kaz limped forward, his cane hitting the cobblestones as his grip tightened, thinking quickly to get out of this mess. He couldn't leave her. It would most likely mean her death or a life behind bars and he speculated she hadn't exactly learned how to pick a lock yet.
Her last words made him realise she had no idea what trouble she was into. Kaz made his way through the small crowd that had gathered and before he opened his mouth, bowed, feeling his ribs protest a little. ''That, my dear, is the king of Navarre you are talking to.'' Kaz said as he raised again, a quick, warned look cast at her before looking at Thriumph himself. And here he hoped the king was not aware who Kaz exactly was. ''My deepest apologies, Sire. She tends to run off when I'm not looking.'' He wasn't sure what exactly Zuzana had told the king, but he was careful with his words. ''I am sadly not in a capable state to go after her, so again, I am terribly sorry for the trouble she has caused.'' Whatever charade he was pulling off now, he hoped it was working.

YOU ARE LOSING MY INTEREST
AND THAT IS VERY,
VERY DANGEROUS

Within seconds Thriumph had assessed the situation. His attempt at cutting the little girl her path had been a success. But the chaos that had been arisen was there too. What a little child, innocent looking like her, could stir up in the already busy capital of his country. There were quite a few people that had just nothing to do with the whole thing, and yet they stood around, searching for the sensation. They would’ve done it even if he wasn’t around, but now, now the King of Navarre had mixed in with the event it all was so much more interesting. Apparently. Slowly the ice blue eyes gazed around, seeing those who had set foot towards this little meeting. A lot, he concluded after. Running is eyes around every single face, remembering who they would be, or if there were new faces in between. But more importantly, how curious they were, because that was something Thriumph could hold against someone, anyone, with such ease.

The girl spoke, making him focus his attention back on the little girl. The one who seemed so innocent, too innocent in his eyes. Of course she would feel uncomfortable under his gazing eyes, especially since most grownups already did. Crouching before the child after she was finished. Not so amused with the answer she delivered him he stared for a moment, just blandly before he spoke again. ’Who takes care of you?’ Thriumph reformed his question, keeping that same calmness over him. Knowing that getting angry now would be one of the worst things he could do. Not only because it would scare the child even more, it would put him in some very bad daylight in front of his people. Something he needed to be careful with, mostly because of all the things that hung above the castle, like a thunderstorm ready to break out. As the girl moved one of her hands towards his, Thriumph his eyes rested on them for a few moments before he decided what to do with it. Slowly the king moved his hands, ensuring the little gesture of the girl. Even though the gesture might be warm, his cold gaze that rose up again did not cooperate with it. Still, it meant that he would find somewhat of a solution for the girl, even if that probably wasn’t a good one. And it meant for Thri himself that the crowd wouldn’t think he was that bad.

A little disruption came within the crowd, as some people stepped aside, moving the whole mass op people that had gathered around the two. The man looked up, towards there were the most wrench was. Before he could answer the question of the child the man who had stepped forward did it for him. Lightly Thriumph pulled his brow up, as he saw how bad the man walked. It made him wonder how he even did it, or what must’ve happened before it would be so severe. ’Seems like my speech isn’t necessary today.’ He spoke, sarcastic while his face stayed the same, neutral as that was. He stood up, levelling with the man rather than the child while he released the contact at the same time. The brow, that wasn’t down at his old position yet, raised up higher with the next words of the man. ’Tends to run off?’ The cold voice asked, more to himself then to anyone else. ’And attempt to steal I understand.’ Thri tilted his head. ’Just a little detail you’ve seemed to miss, I suppose you’re going to give me an explanation for that.’ He paused, his gaze shifting to the girl for a moment before switching back. ’Might be a better idea than to throw me some empty excuses.’

Zanna had been caught and she knew she had caused her fair share of trouble. Even though she trusted Kaz to help her out of it, she had to tread carefully. Every word she told the blue-eyed man could be used against her. What the actions of a little girl could cause in a city like this, was remarkable. Rhoynar had been a lot kinder to her and Kaz then this place. Zanna knew that even though she trusted Kaz, the rules of the streets could prevent him from helping her. One had to put him- or herself first, always. No matter which situation, if it came to it, one was all alone. Though the relationship she had with the older boy, was one that was very important for her survival. He had skills that she could only dream of. Besides that, he didn't get caught red-handed like she did. Zanna could only hope that the one that had caught her, was no one of great import. Though the way people looked at them told her otherwise. He was an important man, in this society at least. The young girl knew better then trying to escape his attention. She was weaker and less experienced then him, and it would be better to work with him then against him. At least for now, until Kaz could come and help her. The eigh year old trusted that he would.

When she spoke, answered his question he focused his cold eyes upon her again. Eyes that had searched the small crowd that had formed. Zanna felt highly uncomfortable under his gaze, though it was better then all those that watched upon them. Crowds could be dangerous, that was the first thing she had learned, though crowds meant that she could steal easier as well. Pickpocketing went mostly unnoticed in the larger crowds, besides that she could easily find a next victim on the busier streets. The man crouched before the child after she finished answering him. He didn't seem to be too amused with her answer, her probably wished to speak someone about her actions. Zanna however didn't want to bring anymore problems to Kaz's doorstep. He stared at her, and it took all her willpower not to look away from him; before the blue-eyed man reformed his question into another one. "Who takes care of you?" That was a more difficult and tender question to anwer. Zanna swallowed carefully before shrugging her small shoulders. Everyone knew someone had to take care of her, otherwise she wouldn't be pickpocketing in such a big city. Besides that she was much to young to be alone. He kept his calm, which was quite impressive, though Zanna knew he was waiting for her to answer his question. However she didn't know how to answer it, with Kaz's name? They had never spoken about what to do when she got caught. She didn't want to endanger him, even though she was scared. Instead of answering his latest question, Zanna moved one of her hands towards him, in a silent invitation. Showing him that she had surrendered, even if she didn't answer all of his questions. She knew better then trusting a stranger with her tale, with her life. The cold eyes rested on her hand for a moment, before he ensured the gesture. The eight year old girl did meet his cold eyes head on, she was used to them; though they still scared her. A girl could not survive on the streets by running only and she decided to meet her fears head on.

Before the situation could degrade more, Zanna heard a familiar sound. The sound of a cane on cobblestone. Kaz? A small disruption came from within the crowd, as people moved to let him through. While the young girl asked for the man's identity a familiar man bowed for the blue-eyed stranger. It was him, it was her chosen brother. "That, my dear, is the king of Navarre you are talking to." He spoke, while he rising again from his previous position. The King of Navarre pulled his eyebrow slightly at Kaz. Zanna remained silent, accepting the warning look that Kaz gave her. "Seems like my speech isn't necessary today." The cold-eyed king spoke, with a slight undertone of sarcasm, if the young girl recognised that well. He stood up to level himself with her "brother" instead of the small girl. He released any contact they had, while listening to the excuses Kaz made. "My deepest apologies, Sire. She tends to run off when I'm not looking." He explained, Zanna kept her watchful eyes on him, in order to read and play his story. After which she lowered her head. ''I am sadly not in a capable state to go after her, so again, I am terribly sorry for the trouble she has caused.'' Zanna looked at him from under her eyelashes, she indeed could walk a lot faster then he could with his cane. It was a good story, but she wasn't sure if it had been enough. For the King seemed to be a smart person, one that could see through lies if needed. In other words, a dangerous person. The brow that hadn't been moved from his raised position, raised even higher with Kaz's words. "Tends to run off?" He mentioned, asked; coldly to no one in particular. "And attempt to steal I understand."The king tilted his head, which made the young girl look at him with her deep brown eyes. "Just a little detail you’ve seemed to miss, I suppose you’re going to give me an explanation for that." He paused, his gaze shifting to the small girl for a moment before switching back. Zanna had lowered her gaze when he looked at her. She didn't meant to get him in trouble as well. "Might be a better idea than to throw me some empty excuses." Zanna wanted to help, though she knew Kaz had a better chance at getting them out of trouble. However the King might be kinder on her then the man. Still she knew it was better to keep her mouth shut, in order to get out of this situation. "He didn't know I would." She whispered, giving Kaz an out. Zanna might have been scared but she was faithful to her brother.

The pull on my flesh was just too strong
Stifled the choice and the air in my lungs
Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie

This was a situation that was best left handled quickly. Especially when a famous figure like Thriumph was involved. Kaz had heard the stories, Kaz knew what the man could be capable of and the last thing he wanted was for all of this to go south. No, Kaz just wanted to get the gold and get out of here. He wasn't sure if Agatha was patrolling the streets as well and if the king knew who he was. It was better to play the fool than to claim something you weren't sure of if you would make it out alive. If that made any sense.

Kaz let the words wash over him, listening to them carefully. As soon as he got told that this child, Zuzanna, had been stealing, he raised an eyebrow in disbelief. How dare she? His eyes darkened, staring angrily at the girl as if it was the first time hearing of her crimes. She didn't get it from a stranger, but that was only a thing they knew. For a moment, the thief seemed for a loss of words. ''I have no excuses.'' He replied, sounding honest. His gaze shifted from Zanna to Thriumph. Everything got a bit harder when you had an audience watching you. It was annoying. ''Other than this is unacceptable. But I reckon we both know that.'' Truth be told, Kaz did have a bit of a hard time explaining Zanna's actions. At first he wanted her to solve it on her own, but she was a child and he had set her up in a way.

''Please forgive her for her actions, Sire, and forgive me for my ignorance.'' Het put his hand on his heart, as if he was truly begging for forgiveness, hoping that this whole charade wouldn't be too much of a play. As long as Zuzanna was safe, everything would be alright. He could take the blame. The last time he got stuck in a cell here it hadn't taken him long before he got out again. Surely this time wouldn't be any different.
