A man like Birvald carried everything he needed to survive. Including a tent. Because sometimes you were not able to find an Inn in time. And sometimes you just wanted to sleep outside in your tent for no reason whatsoever. This night, had been a night like that. Birvald had woken up early to start eating some of his rations. Intending to break off camp as soon as he would finished his breakfast. That way, he would have the whole day to do his traveling. Having the sun on your side can be a serious advantage. Then he realised, before breaking off camp, he had to sharpen Glötter. He grabbed one of the whetstones he carried with him and started to sharpen his greatsword. Softly, he hummed one of the songs his tribe would sing while walking the cold icy plains of Falkreath. It was used to keep everyone's’ spirit up. The wild can be discouraging, even if you’re used to it. The memories of his childhood, and young adulthood soothed the man. “Today is going to be a good day.” He thought. He smiled. He remember that Birwyl once stepped into some bearpoop. When Birwin started laughing, he threw some poop at him. Their father got very mad and made them walk all the way to the their next stop covered in poop. He wished he knew how they were doing. At this point, the soft sounds of a waking town could be heard behind him.

Rhaella Meghaera Medici
She wears strength and darkness equally well

This morning, when the sun shone a watery glow through the thick leaf roof... Another corpse was placed in the forest,  shredded over the dusty pathway towards the capital city of Navarre. The clothes where so damaged that it was barely able to see what they where or who they belonged to, blood stains where still noticeable. The corpse has been placed there as if it wanted to be found. But the traces around it where wiped away like something or someone did not want to be caught.

It all started a few days ago. When Rhaella was on her horse off to a smaller city close to her house. To buy some vegetables for her animals. That day the lady had seen a deer that has been ripped apart the same way as this human creature. At first it did not bother her. But what did bother her was that the forest became more quieter within a few days. No birds singing, no deer gnawing on branches and no squirrels who where searching for some fallen nuts. It worried her. If all the prey animals would leave the forest because of a beast that terrorizes them it would be devastating for the environment. Plants and trees would overgrown the environment and beasts that usually hunt on deer and smaller animals would also leave this place. Meaning this place would be dead and forgotten in a few years. And that was something she could not let happen. For she had been living a rather relaxed life in the forest of Navarre with her animals. Everyday she took care of them and even kept an eye on the wild animals around her house. But the past few days the cause of these mysterious 'murders' had awakened her curiousness and also a small feeling of fear. That she kept hidden.

So here she was a few hours later, on her shire horse in a slow but steady trot towards the nearest village. It was a small but sacred place with only a handful of people. But they all kept their eyes open, even in darker times. And perhaps someone inside this village would have more information for her about the cause of these murders.

With Glötter sharpened and his tent put away, he could continue on his journey. A journey to wherever he could help. Those who are not able to help themselves, to be more specific. So he set out to the road leading to and from the village. There was no need to not use the road, for now. Roads lead to people. And people lead to problems. Problems must be helped. Upon reaching the road, he saw a woman riding a horse. She seemed to be moving towards the village.”Such fury in those eyes.” He thought. So naturally he deemed it important to talk to her. “Lady!” He shouted, while walking directly towards her. But of course, keeping enough distance as to not upset the horse. He, himself, could also get quite upset with new people. So he knew exactly how it felt. “You seem to have something important on your mind.” He then said, ending with a friendly growl. He couldn’t help himself from sounding like a bear sometimes. And conversations were not his strong suit. So he usually got right to the point. He crossed his arms while he waited for her response. If this would be something he could help with, then that would be great. It would mean he had the daylight whilst he was helping.

Rhaella Meghaera Medici

The horse became quite relaxed once they had left her little estate. But still, Rhaella could not help it but to feel more nervous than normally. She wanted to know what kind of creature she had to deal with. Or even worse: face it. If it was able to take down a deer and an adult and shred it into pieces, what woud it do to her? She was not very large or strong. But she was brave, stubborn and her fire bending was strong enough to take down anything in her path. Although she did not like to use her fire bending. It reminded her too much of what has happened the past few years. Rhaella pulls her coat over her shoulders and hides her face somewhat behind it. Winter in these forests could be rather chilly. Although she was happy that is was not so unforgivable as the winters in Falkreath. She walked on, and with every crack of a branch or sighing from the wind she looked around. Luckily for her the village was not very far away. And she could almost see the smoking chimneys trough the trees. A soft smile is placed on her lips. But life had other plans for her as an shouting voice came to her ear. Lady! She startled. And the shout was definitely be ment for her, there where no people around these paths so early at day. So she points her eyes on the source of the noise and saw the unfamiliar male a few meters away from her. She tilts her head a bit and stops her horse making him turn towards the strange man. And as he seemed to continue his words she felt a certain curiousness stir up. She pushes the cloak away from her face and let her hands rest on the saddle. I was actually heading to the village, sir. Her voice warm. when she heard his friendly growl. Her eyes trailed down over the man and she saw the longsword he was caring. She points her eyes on it and back up again at the man. That’s a nice sword you are caring around, sir. Are you lost? Slowly she pushes the horse forward but stops it just before him. Her hands are carefully placed around the reins.

He felt the warmth of her voice on his skin, so to say. He immediately felt connected to her because of this. It was hard to see sometimes, but Birvald had a warm heart too. He had met friendly people during his travels, but only a few who were actually warm. He believed that if people would just be a little warmer, the world would be a nicer place. It was already quite nice right now, he believed. But then again, he doesn’t know a lot of the stuff going on higher up. He smiled, although she hadn’t actually explained what was troubling her. She started to check him out and complimented him on his Greatsword, Glötter. Then she asked if he was lost. Did he seem lost? He didn’t quite understand. For a second there he had a confused look on his face. “I always know where I’m going.” He explained honestly. “My name is Birvald. And I can help.” He said while fighting the urge to pet the lady’s horse. There’s always a way. Whatever the problem may be, he could help. He honestly believed that. This was, of course, painfully untrue. But that doesn’t mean he won’t try. That persistence could also be seen in his persistence to think that the lady was troubled by something. Let’s say it’s instinct.

When he answers her questions she smiled for a bit. Well that is a good thing, sir. The forests of Navarre can be dangerous and you can easily lose your way. Especially when you travel alone. Her lips stopped moving and she takes a breath. Rhaella had examined the man in front of her for some moments right now. At the first encounter he seemed as a friendly and decent traveler. But when her thoughts trailed back on the body which she had found this morning her stomach turned around and she could feel a shiver run down her spine. What if he was something or someone else? That would definitely twist the topic 360 degrees around. He could easily slash a body into the tiniest pieces with that longsword. She narrowed her red eyes a bit and was about to turn the horse around when suddenly the man introduced himself as Birvald, An unique name for someone around these borders, and it sounded more like a name for a Nord than a Navarrian. His words continued and he offered her his help. Those where definitely not the words she would have expected from a stranger. But they where actually most welcome right now. Rhaella tosses the reigns over the horse it's neck and decide to jump off him. She storke the beast over it's neck and grabbed the reins before she turned her body towards the man. Who seemed a lot longer then a few seconds ago. She pulled the hood off her head and the corners of her mouth curled up into a subtle smile. My name is Rhaella, and I am actually looking for help. she hesitated a bit but decided to continue. After all she could use a strong hand. I was actually on my way towards the nearest village to get some help. It may sound strange, but this morning I found a shredded corpse on the pathway towards D'auvignon. And the days before I found some other bodies; deer, humans and other lager beasts where attacked and placed in eyesight. She pauses her words and looks at him from behind her long lashes. I think something big is terrorizing the borders these days, and I want to find out who or what is the cause of this. Her voice became more self-assured with every word she spoke. Not knowing if she would do good on giving the man so many information about these deaths. But hopefully this man seemed as good and decent as he looked like and help her on her way.

Words. A lot of them. Working together to create an explanation. He nodded understandingly in intervals. And when she said that she was actually looking for help, he gave himself a mental pat on the back. He had done well, pursuing this woman, apparently named Rhaella. He repeated the name in his mind. Rha-el-la. “A good name.” He thought to himself. But not long after that she would say something that would turn the content look on his face into a look of seriousness. Given her explanation he understood why she needed help. This was no job to do on your own. Even if you’re self-assured. He, himself, had been dealing with this kind of thing for some years now. Therefore he knew how dangerous it could be. However, there was one thing that still bugged him. “They were killed. But not eaten?” He asked in earnest. If the answer would be ‘yes’ than the list of possible causes would decrease dramatically. “Have the neighbouring villages been warned?” Some sort of natural leaderly quality came about him when he said that. He didn’t even realise it himself. He then placed his hand in his hairy neck and started to scratch. If the culprit was, who he thought it was, then that would mean this were to be a very hard and very dangerous journey. He would do it, nonetheless.

With every word she spoke she had her red eyes pierced onto the man. He nodded when she finished her sentence as the information she gave him seem to have reached his mind. And when his voice came to her hearing again she looked up. [i]Killed but not eaten..[i] his words lingered into her mind and she though back on the first day when she found the corpse of a large deer. The animal had been ripped apart almost precisely. Then the next couple of days trailed down her memory all the same marks and all the same damage that has been done. Rhaella shook her head and her red hair falls over her shoulders. I don't think something or someone has been eaten from the corpses. They where just lying there.. alone. her voice died into thin air and so did her words. I haven't got the change to inform the villagers, but these roads can be quite busy so I guess people would have noticed. At least the blood stains. Her voice sounded a little more careful this time and she looked around. Do you have any idea what or who did this?

As her voice died, he realised how deeply she cared. She wasn’t just warm and caring. There was more. She had some sort of deeper connection to all of this. Maybe the people, maybe the animals, maybe this location. He didn’t know. It didn’t matter. All that mattered was that Birvald now knew this woman would go far to stop the killing of man and beast. He nodded when she explained the villagers probably already knew how dangerous the roads were right now. He trusted that she knew what she was talking about. His face grew grim when she asked if he had any idea what it could be. He looked away for a moment, not sure how to tell her. He closed his eyes. “It sounds like a werewolf to me.” He said softly. He then opened his eyes and looked at Rhaella again. They could either kill it with silver. Or kill it by decapitation. “Do you have any silver on you?” He asked taking a step towards her. He placed his hand on her shoulder. “This will be dangerous.” Not to mention hard. Finding a werewolf during a full moon is easy. Finding a werewolf during the day can be very tricky. “When is the next full moon again?” He thought, while already thinking up a way to find and kill the beast.

The expression on his face changed once she asked him what or who would have caused these killings. And she was also wondering for herself what creature would do this and why they did this. Maybe it was just a mortal men or some creatures from the deepest part of this forest that had gone mad. But as he thought about a werewolf she wondered if it could have been one. For some days the murders have been going on. But a total full moon only takes about three days. So if the werewolf would have done this, they should find out why the wolf has been killing for several days and in such a gruesome way. I don’t know if it could have been a werewolf, sir. she replied to his words. And as he asked her about any silver that she wore he stepped towards her and placed his hand on her shoulder. She leaned back a bit and shook her head. The only silver I carry around is the necklace my mother gave me. But I don’t think that is big enough to kill a werewolf. The next full moon will be in a few weeks, but I am feeling that the killing will continue she hesitates but straightened her back again when he told her it would be dangerous. Cleary it would be, but definitely not be as dangerous as placing traps in the room of the king of Navarre. Maybe the man was underestimating her, and that only made this whole event more exciting. Perhaps I have something else that could be useful. Rhaella took some steps back to create a safer distance and moved her hands up from under her cloak. Sparks started to gather around her hands and a short moment later a stroke of fire started to dance between her fingers. With her slender fingers she controlled the fire and she points her red eyes onto his, waiting for his answer.

Not a werewolf? Why’d she think that? Surely she would explain, right? She didn’t. Maybe because she wasn’t sure. But that was no problem. One could not be sure about everything. They’d best just inspect the corpses and look for tracks. Maybe that will give them a clue as to who or what was doing this. However, she didn't seem to be alarmed by his warning at all. A brave one, she was. He liked that. It was a trait that was regarded highly by his tribe. Just like pain resistance. There’s a game they play in his tribe. They’d bind a thin rope into a loop. Then the rope would be placed around the ears of two people. Then the two pulled back their heads. The one who would give up first, loses. And then.. she displayed a skill that could be rather useful on their quest. As long as she made sure not to set the forest on fire, that is. “Great.” He said, as he admired her precision. He had heard about this, elemental control magic. He has even seen it, but never from up close. He didn’t feel extra safe around her now tho, but at least he knew that she had at least something to defend herself with. He always felt responsible for everyone else’s safety. It was a blessing, and a curse. He then turned his eyes to the forest. “We should look for some more clues.” Surely she would agree, right?

Rhaella mentioned it could be something worse then a werewolf. But what would be worser then those man changing beasts who slaughter in cold blood? A dragon or a wendigo maybe? But. Those beats would be too big to land in the forests of Navarre, And if it was something like that there would be traces of them. At least they would have left some marks in the soft foil. A behemoth would have been noticed since the size of them is remarkable. She shook her head when she heard him talk again. That, probably would be a good idea sir. I could show you the marks on the ground and perhaps even the sheds of corpses that where left. If they are still there of course. Rhaella pulled the reins of the horse and got ready to start walking. Perhaps he could even help her in the future.

She agreed. His prediction turned out to be right. Rhaella started walking and Birvald walked alongside her. Into the forest they went. Have you ever walked through a forest during the morning? One can’t envision a more hopeful sight. The smell of a new day. The first rays of sun, piercing through the foliage. And the sounds of small animals, preparing for their daily journey. How unfortunate it was, that Birvald could not feel the serenity in the forest right now. Something was upsetting the balance nature had so selflessly provided. He let out a soft displeased growl. He was a man of few words, and many feelings. Ironically, he did not look like much of a feely man. So to fill himself up with more pleasant feelings he started thinking about home. Mostly, his family. “Do you have brothers and sisters?” Birvald asked Rhaella, while still looking at his surroundings. He figured that they could talk for a bit. At least until they’d find the first corpse. And what better things to talk about, than family. Family was the greatest. Surely everybody shared the same happy feelings about their family that he has.

The two of them started walking and for a few seconds there was a certain awkward silence between them. She played somewhat with the reins she was holding while the horse was following her easily. In her weary mind it still lingered what could be worse than a werewolf. And she looked around for a moment. But there was nothing. Only the soft rushing of the wind through the thick rooftop of the forest. It made a screeching sound but nothing more. Her red gaze trailed towards Birvald again when he asked her if she had any brothers or sisters. She smiles watery and points her gaze at him for a second. While trailing back to the surrounding in front of him. I don’t have any brothers or sisters. A short silence followed but as soon as it fell she started her words and her lips started moving again. But I grew up with my niece in the castle of D’auvignon. So she is like a sister to me. A soft smile appeared around the corners of her mouth as she turned her gaze towards him again. Do you have any family around these borders? she continues her words. Curious, but still reticent.

He felt mildly sad when she remarked that she had no siblings. How awful a life without brothers and sisters must be. Some of his fondest memories were of his family. Especially the constant bickering of his two older brothers. Well, at least when they were younger. They stopped arguing once they grew a little older. Like the time who was the first to come up, the moon or the sun. Birvald, five years old at that point, didn’t even care about the argument. He just loved listening to their voices. Listening he liked. It’s much easier than talking. Understanding however.. that’s a whole other story. And then Rhaella started talking about her surrogate sister. She never said her name, just that she’s her niece. He felt a little better, hearing that. For some reason, he didn’t even care to remember that she said that she lived in a castle. A castle he knew of. Then, she returned the question to him. “My family lives in Falkreath.” He stated. “Birpapa, Birmama, Birwin and Birwyl.” He continued. Good, stating facts. That’s the perfect way to have a good conversation right? No. He figured he should give his opinion. “I love them.” Well.. what’d you expect? He has a big heart. Of course the first thing he thinks about is love.
