IF I CAN'T FIND A PATH
I WILL MAKE ONE

The warm began to cover the tips of the trees, softly fading into even warmer light. Yellow turning into orange, which faded into a red again. The golden hour, for Thriumph it was his waking hour. The moon was probably up halfway somewhere, guarding the night from the monsters. So the people thought. So the people were wrong. Soon the darkness took over the normally so light landscapes, the forests would experience it first, same with the shadow sides of the mountains. They would get the first taste, after it the more flat area’s started to get covered. Even the damned desert Thri was walking in right as this moment. He never really hated the desert before. Though it was true he found them rather .. boring. But he did hate them now, since they held the light the longest. Making him feel powerless, weak even above all other places. Thriumph avoided them in his travel across the country, walking though the mountains rather than taking the quickest way. The man held still on top of a hill as soon as he arrived, enjoying the last moments the sun took to vanish again for a complete night. Feeling how the weakness dissolved in his body, and his lust for blood peeked from being out in the sun all day. His ice blue eyes laying on a little village at the border of Rhoynar, away from the modern life, away from pretty much everything. Oh, this was going to be an eventful night.

The last life slipped away, right in front of his eyes. It made a cold, wicked even, smile appear on his face as he took the last sips of blood. The demand for it seemed to never stop, a hunger that was so deep even a controlled man like himself had trouble dealing with it. There was never enough blood to satisfy that hunger, and every drop of it more created a even bigger desire. He dropped the body, leaving it be while he looked for a place he could clean himself up. Today would finally be the day he would arrive to where he was traveling to. No place less than Vanaheim itself, Mother’s hearth that was. He would definitely make a bad appearance, and impression arriving like this, and that was exactly the opposite of what he was intending.

The same warm light began to reach those deserts first. This time, it came from the other side. Slowly the darkness vanished again, making place for the light that was really getting everywhere. It hadn’t taken Thri very long to discover where the moving city was, hidden within the mountains. Luckily for him, his senses picked up the sound of people living, the smell of people, blood. They were out, even though the sun barely showed itself in the early dawn. Soon he would feel that seem disgusting weakness again in his body, and then his mind had to take over completely. Not that that really was a problem, him being here held all the arguments. Even though he had been successful at his throne, until his council stabbed him in the back, Thri had planned his escapes long before. And one on that list of option was right in front of him, covered by gates. Deciding it would be best to just take the normal route, he walked to them and got stopped right before. ’Thriumph Medici, I want an audience with Lexa.’ The man said, before anyone could ask what he was doing there. A cold gaze was enough to sent him back through the gates as he waited. Something he was good in, but just didn’t like to do.

We pretend to see
truth in all these lies

Life had been back to the same old. She had publicly announced that the Conclave would be taking place this Summer, just to make sure she couldn’t get away from it anymore. This summer, in these following few months, she would have to tear away children from their parents. Eight children would be put on the mountain that she still saw in her nightmares. They would be sent towards the city during the night, facing the monsters that roamed the lands at night. Hopefully, most of them would die before even reaching the city. Because, while the monsters were bad, the city did not provide any safety. Only one child was to survive and those who arrived safely, needed to fight until only one was standing. The more survived the way, the more the future Commander would have to kill. Killing your friends was something she wished upon no one. It was a memory that would haunt her forever.

‘Thriumph Medici is requesting an audience,’ a voice sounded. Lexa looked up, raising her brow at West. Her trusted guard, a friend even. The older man bowed in front of her, smiling softly. “An audience with Thriumph Medici?” she asked, slowly bending forward in her chair, picking the dagger from her lap and moving her fingers across its flat side. “Why not. Let him in,” she told the guard. For a second, it seemed like West was going to leave, accept her request. Sadly, he seemed to feel the need to lecture her. ‘Keep in mind that he is an outsider, Commander,’ he warned his Commander. ‘Don’t endanger our people for a man you don’t know,’ he went on. Lexa growled softly. “Let him in,” she spoke, almost biting the words at her guard. He nodded, to walk away and do as he was told.

IF I CAN'T FIND A PATH
I WILL MAKE ONE

And now, the waiting game started. It had been a long time, actually for Thriumph to have to play just that game. How he loved to play games, how he hated this one. The last time he had to, he requested his immortality. Leading into just that and more, sadly not in the advantage of Thriumph himself. He played that game so much when he was younger, creeping for that spot his brother took before he went crazy and burned half the country. Thri himself never understood that madness, now he did. Something had clicked when he knew he lost the throne, the most precious thing he was possessing, apart from the strategies that came alongside with that position. He was so into games, maybe would get again since it was a part of his life, but now he just gave in to every little desire. With one big one now: blood.

Every time he had just given in to that little but o so dangerous addiction, tasting the dark red liquid, feeling his teeth tear through some ones flesh. Knowing very well that with each time he gave in, it got a little bit harder to regain the control. Another thing he had been so good at. Now, he just didn’t care. Except for this moment, as he heard all those heartbeats just run their usual path. All quiet, all steady, until the gates would open at least.

But that didn’t happen, at least not in the previous moments and it wouldn’t be in the next. Time could run so utterly slow the man would almost get too bored. And him getting bored would lead into more desires he just gave into, not a good idea. Not now, as Thri was standing in front of the gates of Mothers Heart. He needed to blow the dust off of his focus, and this time to just keep his actions nice and neat. Eventually the man got rewarded, by the returning of one of the guards. Who gestured him to follow while they were opening the gates. Just as Thri had expected, all the heartrates just fastened themselves by the sight of him. A stranger, into their town. It made the corner of his mouth flash up before his cold expression took over, following the given path to the real heart of the country. He stepped in just like he always did, with his usual arrogance and atmosphere even though he lost it all. ’Sweet little Lexa.’ Thri so sweetly said, his lips curling up in a tiny smile. ’It has been quite a while, hasn’t it.’

truth in all these lies
Thriumph. Like most leaders, Lexa had met him before. Back when she had officially taken over the reign of Vanaheim, when she was only sixteen years old. He had never seemed like the respectful type, not even when she had won her place as the Commander, rather than earning it simply by being blood-related to the previous ruler. A Commander of Vanaheim, no matter how young, was generally respected for their fearlessness, their skills in battle and their knowledge in war. As everything was different in the land of the Savages. Yet, Thriumph had always been an interesting one. And she wasn’t quite sure if he amused her, or if she wanted to rip his head from his neck.

And it seemed like he never changed, calling her sweet, little Lexa. While she wasn’t tall, she was very rarely referred to as small. It was the aura she had around her, where most didn’t dare to speak against her. No matter how small she was. She knew her way with weapons better than most men twice her age and she was very well capable of taking them down. Somewhere, however, his way of acting caused her to respect him. Unlike other leaders, he wasn’t… fake. And that was something the woman could appreciate. After all, she had not gotten along with Dacosta because of it.

Oh, Ki-” she started, interrupting herself as she, clearly on purpose, almost called him King. “I mean Thriumph. Been a while indeed,” she smiled. “How have you been?” As if she didn’t know.

IF I CAN'T FIND A PATH
I WILL MAKE ONE

Vanaheim had such a different way of ruling, Thriumph had always found it interesting. Where his country thrived on bloodlines, and their never-ending wars on it, following rules and claims. Someone could be a threat to the country by just existing. Even though he wasn’t the king of Navarre anymore, he and his so beloved daughter were still valid threats. This country, on the contrary, had its own ways. It intrigued him, in fact, Vanaheim had always done just that. Putting kids into a battle to see which one was the strongest, which one would be the one fit enough, the survivor of the pack that could lead. Not that it really tested them on their skills on ruling, Vanaheim still had a pretty working system. That alone was a thing that fascinated him even more, how much the villagers trusted a child, educated or not, on a throne. Or, whatever they called it here.

Slowly, Thri let his ice blue eyes glide through the room, checking every little detail, every position the guards were standing before he focussed his attention on the lady in front of him. Almost like he was uninterested, even though he was. He never was the one that was loved, he still had his ways in words, in another way that was. The man wasn’t interested in the ones that were nice to him, but would stab him if they’d have the chance. Having more a cold personality, did most certainly not attract those people, which was a win-win for him. The young woman in front of her was as different as the country she was leading, which made him not completely hate her, like he did with others. The cynic smile around his lips widened itself on her answer, nothing he didn’t expect of her, guess she was still the same as the first time they had met. ’Still the ways of your 16 years old self I see.’ Thri wasn’t done with his little mocking just yet, though his voice held a certain promise. ’I’ve been thriving, actually.’ With the words the man slowly looked back towards the lady standing in front of him, thinking about how his last night had been. On how the blood had tasted so well, making his eyes darken themselves for just those few seconds, the same little smile still on his lips. ’How have you?’ He added, tearing his gaze away to the surroundings again.

We pretend to see
truth in all these lies
Vanaheim had always been an interesting country and from the day she had started to train, she knew that her entire life would be devoted to it. She trained to participate in the Conclave, knowing that there were only two possible outcomes. One was that she would die, having lived a short life that had no meaning at all. The second, would be that she would win, becoming the new Commander and devoting whatever was left of her short life to her lands. For the first years, she had been fine with this. She had never thought her options through, for it was simply the way of her people. Everyone knew how it worked, why it worked this way and that it was their only possibility. It was only later that she started to doubt herself, her beliefs and her way of rule. And since that day, she knew that there was an entire life she could have had, yet never would. A life with Mort, simple and plain. How she longed for something like that now, something that she could never have.

The ways of our people have worked for centuries,” she calmly stated, knowing that this was not true. That it was her that wanted to change their ways. She was not who she had been when she was sixteen, but this was something Thriumph did not need to know. For all they knew, she was willing to keep things exactly the same. Even if the scar on her side made quite clear that she was trying to change things.
Thriving? Without a throne?” she scoffed, raising a brow. Finally, she stood up from hers, walking past Thriumph as she held her hands behind her back. “So, what is it that brings you to my town?” she calmly asked as she stopped walking, turning around to look at him again. She doubted the Medici had come here to announce how he had lost his throne, after all.
