Don't get attached.

He was so done with this bloody cold. Winter was absolutely not his thing. It got in his clothes, his leg and above all, in his head. It seemed to cloud his judgement, his ability to plan things ahead. His talk with Athena didn't go as planned at all and he felt most uncomfortable in large cities like this. Sure, it came with lots of oppertunities, but it also came with lots of people. People he didn't know, people he couldn't keep tabs on. But then again, this was just the normal world, he couldn't know everything about anyone. And there was the problem, because Kaz wanted to know everything and everyone. He was no knowledge seeker, nor was he an amibitious person seeking to climb higher on the ladder, well maybe a little, not it was just plain paranoia and greed that drove him from street to street, breaking into houses, blackmailing and bribing people, you name it. Kaz, of course, saw no problem with that, he only saw his riches grow and his problems lower. Although, he thought so. Because in the back of his head he knew he couldn't sit down and have a little rest without looking over each shoulder twice and checking three times if his drink wasn't poisoned.
And today wasn't his best of days. The cold terrorized the streets and seemed to haunt him everywhere he went. He had pulled up the collar of his coat to hide his neck from the wind, making his tattoos invisible. Kruge was flying somewhere above him, circling around, watching his every move. Kaz' eyes were pinned to the ground while he tried to make his way throught the streets. The profit of being handicapped was that people made way for you, sometimes pitied you. Kaz only gave cold smiles in return. The young man turned around a rather tight corner, leading into the more entertaining district of the city. That was, if he didn't bump into someone and almost lost his balance. Kaz cursed under his breath before looking up. ''My apologies, I should look where I go next time.'' He said humbly with a faint smile. Always be nice to strangers, oh wait, wasn't it the other way around?

WHEN YOU’VE ELIMINATED THE IMPOSSIBLE
WHATEVER REMAINS MUST BE THE TRUTH

"We will look into the case, Mrs. Strickland, and we will keep you informed if we find anything new. I am, again, very sorry for your loss." After shaking the widow’s hand, Agatha walked back outside and closed the door behind her. She was greeted by a cold winter breeze, causing her to pull up the collar of her long coat. A soft sigh left her mouth and temporarily formed a small cloud as she walked along the road, pondering over the case that had just now been presented to her. A blacksmith, Mr. Strickland, had been found dead at his dinner table. According to his wife he was a healthy man, causing Agatha to believe that there was most likely foul play involved. A doctor was currently inside the house to examine the body, and if all went well she should receive the results before nightfall. For now, however, there was no more she could do for the case except for keeping an eye out for suspicious persons.

Agatha was about to turn a corner that lead in the direction of the precinct when someone else just so happened to do the same thing in the opposite direction. The timing was so unfortunate that Agatha had no time to get out of the way and bumped into the other person before she could realize it. "Oh, excuse me," she said somewhat startled while taking a step back to give the other some space. The man apologized, but Agatha wasn’t fully aware of what he was saying. His face, his piercings, the general way he looked... It rang some bells, but the small shock of unexpectedly walking into someone had somewhat clouded her judgement for the moment. "Are you alright?" she asked somewhat absently without taking her eyes off the man – not in a romantic way, mind you. She couldn’t ignore the feeling she knew who this man was, and most of the time that wasn’t a good sign.

The cold krept in his bones and corrupted him, making it a tad harder to think clearly. Sure, sometimes cold cleared up your mind, but in this weather, all Kaz could really think about was to get warm again. A tavern must be nearby, maybe he could warmp up a bit before he continued his travels. Though, the fact that he now had bumped into someone, made that journey a little longer and Kaz didn't really want to stay and chat. He straightened his coat and made sure his feet were steady on the ground, not wanting to lose his balance again. It only told him how stiff he was and how desperately he wanted to warm up near a fire.
So, Kaz being Kaz, smiled shortly at her, meaning the smile already faded before someone could really percept it, and he already wanted to move forward. But then she asked how he was. What did she expect him to say? He could be rude and call her out for not watching where she was going, but then again, neither had he. Or he could just shrug it off and get going, like his inital plan had been and still was. ''Nothing to worry about here.'' He said rather quick, leaning a bit on his cane as he started to feel his leg aching. ''But, if you don't mind, I rather go somewhere warm.'' He then quickly followed up, setting a step forward in hopes the woman would get out of his way. ''So goodday, miss.'' Damn woman, move. Kaz didn't have all day and if he kept standing here, he would probably freeze to death. And that wasn't exactly his deathwish. In fact, he rather stayed alive for a little while longer.

WHEN YOU’VE ELIMINATED THE IMPOSSIBLE
WHATEVER REMAINS MUST BE THE TRUTH

As she saw the man leaning on his cane, Agatha let her gaze glide over it. Now she definitely knew he was a person of interest: The head of the cane had the unmistakable shape of a crow’s skull. She was certain that that specific item fit the description of someone she and her colleagues had been looking for, but the cold and this unexpected situation prevented her from figuring out who exactly he was. It was on the tip of her tongue, but there was no doubt in her mind that she couldn’t let this person walk off like nothing.

Therefore she didn’t move aside when the man mentioned he wanted to go somewhere warm, stepping forward to make clear he wanted to go on his way. "Our precinct is quite warm," Agatha replied gently, yet – ironically – somewhat cold. "I was just going that way. How about you come along?" she said as she gestured in the direction she was going earlier, not planning to let the man leave.

As soon as the woman not moving out of his way, Kaz realized something was wrong. Was he supposed to know her? Had he robbed her before? No, he would've remembered that. He always made notes where he had been and what he'd done. A sloppy thief would rob the same place twice, Kaz wouldn't. So, what was her deal? The young man narrowed his eyes slightly, examining the woman in front of him. She was much older than him, not looking like the most friendliest person in your nieghbourhood and above all, her eyes seemed to look straight through him. Kaz didn't like this one bit. He bit on the ring in his lip, trying to contain his paranoia and instead forced on an irritated and bored. There was no way in hell he was going with her. ''Am I supposed to know you?'' He just blatantly asked, raising an eyebrow while it was his turn now to stay where he was. No matter if she would sweettalk him, or even bribe him, Kaz knew that the moment he would set a foot inthe direction she was going, he wouldn't get out of there so easily. ''Besides, I have different plans than just walking around this cold city.'' He added, trying to find a way out of this conversation. And for some reason Kaz knew that money wouldn't solve that puzzle.

Agatha didn’t budge when the man asked her if he was supposed to know her. "Perhaps," she simply answered. She wouldn’t rule it out that her name was known within the criminal world – just like how she knew this man, if only she could think of his name. Though she didn’t show it, it frustrated her that she couldn’t recall the name and charges that fitted this man’s description. She knew it, she definitely knew it, but perhaps the biting cold made her not think as clearly as she should. "So do I, mister," she said as the man mentioned he had different plans. "But that wasn’t a question," she continued, her voice now more stern than before as she pulled aside the left lapel of her coat, revealing the metal sheriff’s star pinned on the clothing underneath. "You’re coming along to the precinct," she commanded, knowing that if the man was smart or innocent he probably wouldn't object to that. However, if he had something to hide he would likely protest in any way possible – and she was prepared for that.

Kaz liked to look at women, but that was probably it. He knew very well he could never get intimate as long as his fears controlled him. But he somehow always managed to fuck things up as soon as he opened his mouth. Today seemed no different as the woman in front of him didn't move out of his way or introduced herself. Kaz got the feeling he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. That feeling only grew stronger when she opened the side of her coat and he saw the star glimmering in the winter sun. Well fuck. His facial expression didn't change one bit, there was no hint of fear or notice of shock. Kaz simply stared a few moments at the emblem, aknowledged it and looked back at the woman, seemingly not caring at all. He was in deep shit, but made sure she wouldn't know. Besides, the locks of jails weren't the hardest ones to pick.
Kaz nodded. ''Sure. My apologies for my stubbornness.''He started while he stepped aside so she could show him the way. ''It's just that you never really know what people want from you these days.'' His eyes were focussed on the street in front of him, the street he had just walked away from. It was still fresh in his mind, he knew the alleys that were connected to different streets, but this wasn't the best way to escape. The streets were narrow and any small inconvenience could get him caught if he wanted to run. ''Is it okay if I ask for your name, miss..?''If today was going to be a day where he was going to get caught, he at least wanted to know her name so he could add it to the evergrowing list of people he didn't want to cross paths with again.

WHEN YOU’VE ELIMINATED THE IMPOSSIBLE

The man didn’t show even the slightest hint of surprise at seeing her star-shaped badge. He apologized for his stubbornness earlier and stepped aside, seemingly to allow Agatha to show him the way. "You never know who you might run into, indeed," she reacted calmly. Despite the man’s current docile demeanor she wasn’t able to set aside her suspicions - she knew not to trust someone on their blue eyes or polite talking. For that very same reason she wasn’t planning to let this person walk behind or beside her, since she didn’t know whether the man was carrying a weapon, so she simply gestured in the right direction. "It’s that way. Just keep walking in a straight line, I’ll be right behind you and I’ll let you know when to make a turn", she explained, after which she waited for the man to start walking. However, before he did so, he asked for her name. "Morstan," she replied, not willing to reveal her first name to the man yet. For a moment she considered asking for his name in return, but if this man was indeed one she was after it would be highly inconvenient if he realized she didn’t know his name. Though, she was certain she knew it – if only she could recall.

Greed bows to me. It is my servant and my lever.
While calmy walking along this so-called sheriff, Kaz eyes shifted from the road to the streets that sprung off of the road he was currently walking on. He couldn't turn around, he couldn't run forward, so his only other option was the side. It were small movements, not wanting to put attention on it, knowing that if this woman would notice she would most definetely know that he had something up his sleeve. Kaz exhaled silently and kept walking. If only Kruge was here now to peck her eyes out or something. That wasn't even the worst idea.. His eyes went up to the sky, noting a small, black creature not hovering far above them. Good.

Morstan. He repeated the name multiple times in his head, but it did not ring a bell at all. Nonetheless, Kaz knew she was trouble. He wanted to reply, eventhough it wouldn't even be his real name, but knew that it would not be the smartest choice. Instead, he pressed his lips harder and kept on walking. He could take the name of his ex-fiancé, she would probably be dead in a ditch somewhere, so no one would know. He could state a name that had almost been his, but never truly would be. She wouldn't connect the dots anyway. But it was a fine decoy. ''Have you been doing this work for long.. Morstan?'' Tasting the name on his tongue didn't work either. This woman was a mystery to him, but even more so a danger.

WHEN YOU’VE ELIMINATED THE IMPOSSIBLE

Initially, Agatha didn’t bother to think of some small talk along the way. She was simply too agitated by the fact that she just couldn’t recall who this man was, and she didn’t feel like showing that agitation. Unfortunately for her, the silence was broken by the man who asked her if she had been doing this work for a long time. She didn’t trust the man enough to give any precise years, so she took a few seconds to think of a more abstract way of giving the same information. "I’d need both of my hands to count the years," she eventually stated. It was true, since she began her apprenticeship ten years ago and became sheriff a couple of years later, but the man didn’t need to know those details. In any case, it would still take a while for the both of them to reach the precinct, so Agatha hoped that the man had lost his interest in small talk by now. Though on the other hand, maybe she could gain more information about him without asking anything that could reveal she couldn't remember who he was. This could still get interesting.
