Rhaella Medici
She wears strength and darkness equally well
Rhaella thought back about the girl with the dark brown hair and the pale blue eyes. The two of them where always together. Making sure to give the guards that needed to protect them a hard time by disappearing from time to time. They both knew the secret passages King Triumph always used and they used it a lot to sneak out off the castle and into the forest of Navarre. Chasing small animals in the woods. She smiled a little as her weary mind drifted off towards those small memories. They where small and probably not worth anything for other people. But they reminded her of the happy times she had during her childhood. And there were not many. She found herself back to reality. And as she asked the man next to her about his familly she nodded. He seemed very fond of them, so it seems. And curious as she was she wanted to know more about them. Do you see them very often or are you always on the road? Was the next question that was fired from her lips. All she had to do now was wait for his answer. As the two of them followed the road Rhaella saw the familiar markings on the ground appear. It was the place where she had seen the body that was ripped apart into pieces. Her red eyes grew a little wider as they reached the place. No way... She stopped the horse, loosened the reins and walks towards the bloodstains. They where spread on the ground in different shapes and sizes. But the most important thing, the body. Was gone. Her eyes immediately drifted off from the stains towards the forest around them wondering what or maybe who could have taken it.

This was a good conversation. Which means his previous assumption, about that, was right. And Gods.. it felt good to be right for once. Truly.. right! The conversation continued. Awh man.. he was good. Call him Smoothvald from now on. “We are all always on the same road. They just take other roads.” He said a little sad, and a little happy. It made him sad he couldn’t see them often, but it made him happy to know that his family was (mostly) together and in good company. As long as they were with Woolrich, everything would be alright. “I want to help people. But I can’t if I stay with my family.” He explained.

Then, something caught Rhaella’s eye. Birvald wasn’t informed of that, until Rhaella made a verbal sign of confusion. He walked with her to ‘The Place’™️. Upon reaching The Place, he frowned. She told him that the bodies had not been eaten. But.. it didn’t take long for him to figure out what had happened. It had to have been taken. He was not a great lie-spotter. But he knew an honest person when he saw one.  However, he growled in frustration. There.. had to be tracks..

As the two of them walked along the path it was obvious that Rhaella did not want to let an awkward silence fell between them. So she looked back at the man next to her a smiled softly while asking him some questions. It must have been hard for you to choose between the people you love the most and helping others For a few seconds she looks at him but turns her head away towards the road again. She always admired them. People who set themselves on the second place and other people on the first place. As if they were completely abandoning themselves and only focussing on the other people in this world.

And while the place where the body was left finally dimmed up in their eyes. Her red eyes grew a little wider. The two of them moved themselves towards the bloodstains and she looked around for any traces. well, that did not go as I planned it would go. She let her hand run trough her fiery red hair and turns her body towards Birvald. Looking at him with a questioning face. Do you have any ideas what to do now? After all he was the monster hunter. So she expected something more from him

Yes. Yes it was.” He said.. remembering how hard it was for him to leave all those wonderful people he had spent most of his life with. He kept looking down at the ground for a while. He kept thinking.. ‘Was there anyone.. who was hardest.. to say goodbye to?’ But he couldn’t think of anyone. He loves everyone so much. But they were not the people who needed them most right now. However, he promised himself that he would visit again. He didn’t really feel like talking about it anymore though.

He nodded. Yes, he did know what to do now. First of all, he crouched down to look at where the body was last seen. He concluded that there had been a body laying there indeed. And from the looks of it, it had been an elk. He growled softly. How could you move an elk? You’d have to be strong enough to lift it.. which would mean there would have to be deep footprints. But let’s say you’re not strong enough to lift it.. then there would have to be dragmarks on the ground. He looked around on the ground.. Dragmarks. “The elk has been dragged away.” He stated. He then stood up right again and started following the dragmarks. He didn’t even tell Rhaella to follow him. Although she could easily do it, if she wanted to.

He followed the path for a few minutes, until it curved to the right, making a path around a very thick tree. And when he took his first step around the corner.. he saw something absolutely amazing. A Golden Egg. It was huge, and he immediately felt the need to bend over and touch it. He grabbed it with both his hands and lifted it up. The Egg started to glow. Birvald had to look away, so he would not be blinded by the light. The glow started to envelop Birvald. The glow shone brighter until.. it seemed to get absorbed by his body. He felt dizzy, and had to take a step, to make sure that he did not fall down. He placed his hand on his forehead. He felt a little lightheaded. He tried opening his eyes, but he couldn’t, for a second.

When he did.. and looked at Rhaella.. He could see her aura.. At least.. that’s what he thought he could see..

Rhaella Medici
She wears strength and darkness equally well
Maybe she was going crazy? She had clearly seen an animal being ripped apart into pieces this morning. Was her head playing tricks with her again or has the body been removed? With big red eyes she was staring at the spot and the bloodstains on the ground. She had asked Birvald a question but slowly she shook her head. Not getting any grip on this situation. What of her own animals? Where they even safe around here? Was it time to move somewhere else? Perhaps she could stay in I’llyria where she had met the chief of the legion. But what of her animals? She could not leave them, right?  And what about eros? Hear weary mind started to ask a lot more questions then she could handle and she pinched her eyes shut for a few seconds to get control of her brain again and not walk in circles of the drama her mind was creating. She sighed and it was then that Birvald stated that the elk has been dragged away. Her red eyes opened again as she pointed her face on him again. A big question mark could be read from her face but as he stood up and he started following the marks on the ground she hesitated a bit. She looked around for a moment but as soon as Birvald disappeared from her eyes she moved her legs in the same direction. Íf there would be a dangerous beast around these borders she did not want to be alone here. Not where the bodies had been found. No, she needed him. Not only to help her finding the beast but also defeating it.

Rhaella found footsteps on the ground and decide to follow that trail, since she had left him out off sight. She pulled her dress a bit up so it would not get stuck into the leaves and any roots that where sticking out off the way. With her other hands she gently moved the horse behind her through the forest. And after a few minutes of following the trail she saw Birvald appear again. He looked strained, a little shocked. She did not knew what has happened until now so curious she made her way towards him again. Are you alright? she hesitated Did you found something? Her red eyes drifted away from his face to look behind him, but there was not much to see. So she points her gaze in his again.

He had to blink with his eyes for a few times, to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. But he really saw it.. Behind Rhaella. A deer. As if it was cautiously keeping watch over Birvald’s every move, while protecting itself with Rhaella. It had a green glow to it. Except for the fact that the deer was glowing red from the inside. Like a small flame, able to burst out in a forest fire at any moment. Maybe it was the egg, maybe it was his own brain.. but he was sure of it. This.. was an aura. To him, it meant that Rhaella was gentle, quiet, yet amazingly passionate. It made him like her even more.

In response to her question, he nodded. He felt quite good actually. Now that the dizzyness was over. “I found an egg.” He looked around him on the ground, to find it. But it was nowhere to be seen. “It was gold.” He frowned once he realised it was gone. Shouldn’t he have touched it? No way. The feeling he had gotten from it was far to amazing to be a bad thing. He looked up at Rhaella again, a little guilty. He was sad that Rhaella would not be able to see the Golden Egg. But maybe.. she was more occupied with the problem at hand.

Rhaella Medici

As she followed the path she made sure to keep her eyes focussed on the landscape around her. One wrong move and she would have a really problem. Or perhaps one wrong move and she would be caught by something or someone she did not want to encounter. She had to be honest that walking all by herself following the trails of birvald that where placed on the ground was probably not her smartest move. But surely she would find him if she kept following them. And it was true. As she made a curve to the right she almost stumbled upon him. She tilted her head a bit and wondered what he was doing here. Had he found something? Or was there something wrong? As she found his gaze again she made a few steps towards him to make sure he was alright. But all he did was starting a conversation about an egg and the golden color it wore. She frowned and looked behind him to see if there was anything. But there was nothing. Only trees and some bushes. Her gaze went back towards his eyes but there still where questions unanswered. Are you sure that you feel alright? There is not egg here neither a golden one. She hesitated a bit as she leaned back a bit. Did you manages to get a track on the marks we where following? After all they where tracing something or someone.

Indeed, he started to doubt himself. Did he find a golden egg? Didn’t he? Had he always been able to see auras? The hairs in his neck rose. He shook his head. “I’m alright. And the egg is gone.” He stated. He wiped his face with his right hand. “Here.” He said, and turned around, continuing his original path. The dragmarks were still there. He assumed Rhaella and her horse were still following him. What else would they do? They seemed extremely invested in this matter. Even Birvald could figure that out.

From what he could see, he concluded that the culprit hadn’t tired one bit, from dragging the Elk. So the culprit was strong, but not able to lift the victims. He frowned. Was it a beast? Birvald didn’t say much, As they continued walking along the dragmarks. He didn’t like the fact that the marks were zigzagging through the forest. Not clearly going West, East, or North. More and more time passed, and he started to feel uneasy. His whole posture changed into that of an animal feeling threatened. “This is a trap.” He said earnestly, and not at all happy. Slowly he changed himself into a Big Brown Bear, and stood right up. Looking, sniffing, being angry. Should he have communicated better? Yes. Did they have much time? Who knows?

Rhaella Medici

Things were getting strange around here. And the strange attitude of Birvald only confirmed that. Perhaps she should have thanked him for his help but find other help in the city. Or perhaps she should have gone by herself to search for the source of the killings. Because right now she did not trust this whole thing that was going on. Slowly she pinched her eyes as he stated that the egg was gone. But as he seemed to continue the path they where taking she still decides to follow him. Even tough she did not trust this. For a short moment they said nothing to one another and just following the drag marks that had been placed on the ground. Probably by the killer himself. Rhaella could feel that the contact of her hands with the reigns tightened with every step she took. And the darker the forest became the more insecure she got. For sure she could not let her fear take over. Not this time. She started walking a little faster so she made sure to be close to the man. Her eyes still wandering around the forest. For a moment she was not paying attention to Birvald but as he stood still in an instant she had to be fast enough not to stumble him over. With a frown on her face she waited. A trap? Are you sure? But before her words could reach for his ears the man started to change into something large. A bear. She instantly took some steps back from him. What if this guy was the one who was responsible for the killing? A stroke of shiver run down her body while she thought about that. B...Birvald? he voice is barely a whisper and she was wondering if it would even reach his ears.

Split second: The sound of an arrow. Birvald’s ears twitch. The arrow is pointed at Rhaella. He jumps in front of Rhaella. The arrow hits his shoulder.

Luckily, his thick bear skin can handle that. But he still doesn’t like to be attacked, and even worse, trapped. He roared loudly to where the arrow came from. Only some bushes rustled. Then, an arrow was shot in his buttcheek, coming from a tree.

This was a trap alright. And a good one at that. It felt like it was made, especially for people like them. Adventurous people, who actually cared about their surroundings, and whoever lived in it. However, the ‘why’ was still unclear. A big thing, presumably a beast, had dragged a dead Elk away. Only for, whoever followed it, to be shot with arrows. It didn’t make any sense. Not to Birvald, at least. And now he was very angry. He ran towards the tree that shot his ass, and tackled it. Whoever, or whatever, was in it, had to come out. Now! Another arrow was shot, now in his back. Hopefully Rhaella was calm enough to make better deductions than the protective bearman. And hopefully, she could think of a way to deal with them.

Everything went by in a flash. A sudden flash of anger as the man in front of her started changing into a beast and catched almost immediately an arrow. It happend so fast that she did not even get the change to response to it. The only thing she did was loosen the reins  she was holding and make sure the horse was out off attack sight. Go boy! she hissed at him as the steeds started making his way out off the rain of arrows.

Forests were not quite handy when it comes to fire bending. The dryer the season the more dangerous it became to use her powers. Luckily for her it was early autumn so the forest could regenerate any damage she would do. Rhaella dodged another arrow by bending over making sure not to get too far away from Birvald. She bends her knees a little and raises her arms. Her red gaze is pointed on everything around them and she started walking slowly. Whoever has set this trap was either very pathetic, or just wanted to get rit of ‘certain’ people. She dodges another arrow and turns around to fire some spikes she created at another tree where the arrows came from.

Bears.. could climb. So Birvald did. Another arrow was shot, from that same tree, in his shoulder. Luckily for him the other archers were preoccupied with a certain lady who could also handle a bow very well. And once he got to the top of the tree. He bashed the archer out of the tree, using his powerful claws. It was a very short.. but very hairy man. A thick dark beard covered his face. And he wore a weird kind of red cap on his head. However his bow was broken by the fall, and he attempted to flee. But Birvald jumped out of the tree, bashing the man to the ground once more. Do not poke the bear. Especially with arrows. You never know how poorly one could control oneselve’s temper. Now, Birvald successfully broke the man’s back, causing him to stop breathing. He let out another angry roar. Some more arrows proceeded to be pierced in his back, and his butt. He ran towards some bushes. Some of the arrows had been fired from there. He grabbed the archer by her neck, with his teeth, and threw her next to the one with the broken neck. She.. too.. was wearing the strange red cap. “No no no no.” She begged. But Birvald’s rage had taken him to a place beyond reasoning and mercy. He hit her chest twice, once with each arm. She too.. stopped breathing. Three more arrows were shot at him. Hm.. not done yet..

It seemed as if there was no end on these enemies that have appeard from the woods. Her arms were getting tired and same could be said from her entire body. As she encounters another arrow that nearly hit her face another stroke of fire was pushed against the attacker. It was not even rage that was driving her system right now. No, it was pure boiling hot lava that seemed to flow form her fingers. But her cooking point was reached and before she even realised it she created a fire wall and bashed it back towards the attackers with all that she had. She did not came here to be attacked by anyone, let alone to be killed by a rain of arrows. This had to stop. And it had to stop now.

Before he could even fully realise what was going on, a wall of fire got sent to the rest of the archers. A few ran away, trying to put themselves out. Others fell out of trees. Probably falling unconscious. Some animal instinct in him made him roar loudly yet another time. It had been so loud that one of the archer who was still archer, ran away anyway. By fleeing, she lost her red cap. Now falling down, revealing what could be seen on the inside of the Cap. A symbol. Birvald, now, was walking back and forth. Looking for more hidden people. But couldn’t find any. By walking, he started to get less and less angry. Until he was just a friendly walking bear. Finally, he decided to change back to his human form. Honestly, having thumbs was great. At which point he walked towards the woman’s fallen cap. He picked it up, and looked at the symbol. It was a circle, with inside of it.. a square. Inside the square.. was a rune he had never seen before. Which made him growl rather unhappily. “Do you know what to make of this?” He asked Rhaella, showing the Symbol inside the red cap.
