Let it slither in your veins
za sep 30, 2017 10:46 pm
Slowly the trees passed the view of the small lady on her light horse. It started with every tree that crawled by, followed by so much it almost became a blur. A dark brown blur with hints of red and orange since the seasons were changing. And all of the time her mare just stepped through, finding the pathway that suited best for her hooves and the rider that was on. On the long trips like these Faylice had hardly any attention to the never-ending landscapes Navarre had to offer. It was like she was daydreaming for hours, only without the dreaming part. She had traveled a lot like this, through the quiet woods, getting from north to south all the way towards the borders of Valyria. And she wasn’t there yet, if she needed to guess she was only halfway there, and that fact didn’t please Fay.
This morning she left town where the dark haired woman had stayed for the night before, packed with some food she left in the dawn of the morning. Afraid to stay somewhere too long to get recognized, it was something that was on her mind ever since she set foot on the lands of Navarre. Though, she hoped she would reach another town before the night fell. Unfortunately the search hadn’t produced it’s wanted goal, it was getting dark and there was no civilization anywhere to be found. Faylice looked up, reaction to her mare that was getting a little nervous. It was odd since she didn’t get nervous as often, but she could feel something as well. It was like a uneasy feeling that had laid his blanked on her shoulders. She pushed her horse a little on, while having the attention, hoping a house or something like that would show up.

Why so serious?
I'm not the monster, I'm just ahead of the curve
Avanti didn’t count days and in a way he kept following him in his mind, day after day, week after week. When you become immortal time was no longer an essential in your life, it was just nothing. It stretched out before him in a way he tried to ignore it. He didn’t had to sleep, he didn’t had to eat, he just was an undead in a world full of life. He could just stand there for hours thinking it were minutes before the sun sunk down and told him otherwise. Today was no different on the others, he collected information worthy of his time and listened to the sweet prayers of those who asked for his help, or at least, the help that called itself a cult. Avanti did certain things, things nobody ever would do in exchange for a greater price. He always wanted something, just like everybody wanted him, chained because of the dead trailing behind his footsteps. That arrogant smirk jumped on his face when he overheard the guards and he pushed his body away out of the shadows he was hiding in. No, not hiding. He never hide himself, he was just always there in plain side for everybody to see him, you just had to look hard enough.
Leaving the crowded places behind Avanti made up his mind and headed for nature and his prey. His blue eyes hinted the little purple birthmark into the starting darkness of the forest as his slim body walked like air over the leaves. Now you could say he had that creepy attitude, wandering alone, pale skin, dark clothes, the collar of his jacket up, strand of his black hair covering his forehead. He walked like the undead in the stories children told each other, slowly, tuning his senses on the surroundings. He could love such a night as much as the slight restlessness drifting through the air. He wasn’t alone, he knew that from the moment his walked this far away from whatever human life there was behind him.
The hooves of a horse became as restless as the person on it. Avanti tilted his head, closing his eyes while he slowly took a deep breath in, taking everything of the person into his system. A young girl, all alone. When he opened his eyes they were focused in the distance. He just stood there, not hiding, but rather smiling on having this scenery so late on the day. Even the night could still surprise him. When she came within his eye sight he could see how unsure the horse was on getting onto the little forest path he sided at. Avanti slowly pushed away from the tree, pushing his hands in the pockets of his black jacket as he slowly looked up to the person in the saddle. ‘Is the princess lost?’ Yes, he knew who she was, he knew who everybody was. He wasn’t shy on approaching, he wasn’t scared on getting recognized, he was the only thing standing between her and the warmth of a house … but he was also the only thing standing between her and the monsters of the night. ‘Looking for a little light in the darkness of this dreadful night.’ Something in his voice smoothened with sarcasm while his eyes not so friendly scouted her face. The princess … what he could do with a princess.

Step by step Faylice could feel her little mare becoming less sure about the steps she made. Odd because she didn’t normally behave like that, or to be exact, it was a rare occurrence. The last time Faylice felt her mare behave like that was when they were closing in on a wild bear. The little horse must have smelled the animal way before she could even see and that day she survived because of that. Together with the uneasy feeling that suddenly came across the path they were walking, was the point Faylice started to feel that something was off. She couldn’t put her finger on it, although it was hunting time for the most predators, she didn’t hear a single branch move in the utter silence that she was in. Only the hooves that imprinted the ground left a sound. With that, the feeling was different from that of her being a prey to a wild animal, she had overcome that as well. Not knowing what was going on made her sharp, leaving the blur she was in this afternoon for what it was and reaction to every little possible thing that could be the cause of this.
Faylice her icy blue didn’t rest anymore, gliding from tree to tree and all of the space in between. Looking for something or someone that maybe gave her some answers to the change of atmosphere that had settled in so quickly. It was then when she saw a figure stepping from a tree, making her question why she didn’t saw him earlier. It made the mare beneath her stop abruptly, which Faylice didn’t mind, at all. His words made her heart skip a beat, four simple words that caused a hurricane in her mind. He could be bluffing, she thought. Her clothes were plain and no one that really knew the royal family could recognize her, especially with this little light. While looking into his eyes she could feel herself getting colder than the air surrounding herself, making a shiver run along her spine all the way down. ’I’m not particularly lost, sir.’ She said unsure of herself. She avoided the whole word “princess”, hoping it would stay with that. ’Well I did think I’d reach a village by now.’ Was her next reaction, but her voice died with the look he gave to the lady. Oh she could feel this was not going to be an easy night.

Over living generations of people had his advantage … he never changed, the people did. So he stayed that young bright person while all the rest grew old and grey. Even when they did, Avanti never forgot a face, a name … he lived through children of kings, the rise of new once, he probably knew more about this land than the children learn out the books. And in not any of those books there was not a word about the darkness he spread. Scared that the children would get nightmare they probably already had. But information was more worth than gold, for that Avanti was more worth then anyone walking around. He was already some time here, detailing his information with what he heard, smelled, felt. Standing here on this path wasn’t a coincident, calling her princess wasn’t one either. He knew who she was, even if she was the biggest secret around here, he would still know. That wasn’t where he had some much pleasure in, the pleasure came from the reactions. Like hers … oh did he loved to see that face try to stay normal while her heartbeat skipped. He titled his head a little, listening to it, smiling about it. She could sit there all normal but he knew what she was, a princess, a princess that was here all alone by herself … or not, he was here.
He slowly walked closer, steps like a predator closing in on his pray. He pulled a hand out of his pocket and served it to the horse. He was scared, that poor thing. His eyes rested on it, how her nose stroke his hand, snorting in doubt. He had far better horses at home, horses that weren’t horses but deserved his admiration. As soon as she talked his eyes slowly went up to her again. The corner of his mouth came shortly up as she said ‘sir’. ‘Hmmm.’ He looked back to her mare, fingers petting against her grey nose. ‘If you thought there would be a village and there isn’t one I would categorize that under lost.’ He pinched the nose and her horse startled back a bit. He looked back up to her, scouting her fair skin, her delicate neck. ‘What does the princess out here, all by herself, you know,’ he felt silent, looking over his shoulder into the woods. ‘the monsters are watching.’ He softened his voice a little, slowly looking back to her. ‘Aren’t you scared of the monsters?’ It was such a simple question but the way he said it made it just so much worse. Hearing her shiver would be a pleasure, hearing her scream would be enjoyable … as long as it was something, something worth his time, something worth his hunger …

How the horse her steps felt more insecure by every meter she covered ground, how less sure Faylice felt now she was standing still. It was like it crawled up to her, getting more grip on her with every second that ticked by. The more time that passed, the more she felt trapped, trapped in the sticky web of the night. One where she had no power in, and the chances of coming out were slimming very fast, or even impossible by now already. She watched as the man came closer, making contact with her mare who was getting seriously nervous now. But the lady could say the same, the closer he got the more she felt the air thicken around her throat, pushing it so that it got harder to breath.
It was then when fear made its first arrival, being just a simple atom that released itself it caused a stir which entered her system. How calm she tried to keep herself, but feeling her heartrate go up silently. ’I was delaying that conclusion.’ She muttered as soft as she could, responding to the words he spoke. All Faylice wanted was to run away, as quickly as she could, but she knew she couldn’t. Being caught by his eyes she tensed up, hearing his words out. Just barely looking with his view over his shoulder because the realization that the monster was right in front of her came in. ’I have great respect for the monsters.’ It was Fay her last resort of stay calm as she spoke her words slowly, almost as if she was too afraid to continue. But even with her hardest try she heard her voice trembling, her hands shake. Her eyes locked on the man, sharp on every move he would make, trying to figure out how she would survive the night.

Why so serious?
I'm not the monster, I'm just ahead of the curve
Here she was, an innocent young girl, laying entrapped by one of the most feared vampires this land had known. Avanti wasn’t an easy target but you could handle him … with the right words, the right gestures. She was the princess of Navarre and she was lost in the woods. This could go so many directions in which he was in control of all of them. But in that first moment he just enjoyed the heartbeat in her chest, the fear he could start to smell, not only from her but equally from her horse. Avanti never harmed much animals, only what came in the way. His appetite was far greater for the real deal for example her. His eyes trailed to her neck, almost if he could see the pulse go through it. But other than his eyes nothing moved much. Why did they never learn? Why did they always have to go outside in the nights, in the moments the monsters where awake the most? He was here as a reminded, but also to benefit. Otherwise he would have already pulled her from her horse to sink his teeth right into that soft flesh of hers.
When she announced that she was delaying the conclusion of being lost, the corner of his mouth came up a little. ‘Sorry to burst your lovely bubble princess.’ He wasn’t sorry, he felt merely nothing. If she thought to get home she was wrong. If she thought he wouldn’t hear her, she was wrong again. His finger rested on the rein from the horse, stroking his finger over the leather as he tried to influence her with fear. Her words made him look away from the reins, eyes stroking over her body before he gave her the look of his deadly eyes. ‘Then you must know all their names, their reputations.’ He spoke so softly, dreamy almost, pinching that horse again, grabbing a rein so the mare couldn’t run away. ‘Why don’t you come down from that horse Faylice so we can have a more civilized conversation.’ And that wasn’t an offer, his tone was rather flat on the end, his eyes more dead than single seconds before. ‘Maybe we can make a deal.’ He offered, tilting his head so that smile of his had an almost charming way. Would she know who he was? She was dancing with the devil and Avanti was attending to dance a long way through the night …

Her breathing, going in and out to get the necessary oxygen that was present in the air around the young lady. But the only thing was, the air was getting ticker around her, causing Faylice to get less and less of the so needed oxygen. Which resulted in a fastening of the same movement of her chest. It all started to go to the panic level, something her mind was in way before. When the man in front of her showed up the point was there to start to figure some way out. But Fay was headstrong, and even for herself she ignored the o so vital signs that this was headed the very wrong way at the point she left this morning.
It was like she felt his piercing eyes move over her porcelain skin, leaving her shivering all over her body. His words let her into more conclusions. The one, that he really knew. Something else that she had ignored, hoping it would still be a bluff, but it wasn’t. She had an absolute certainty that he knew she was the princes, in addition, she had the idea that he knew far more that she would ever know. And that didn’t make her feel more comfortable. Faylice watched while the man took the rein, knowing it would hold the mare in place, even if she wanted her to run. Something she guessed was all over the mind of the poor horse, and the only logical thing. She looked up again, as he started talking again. He knew, she didn’t. The dark haired lady had heard the stories, had definitely take her attention to it, but she didn’t knew all of it. And that would cause more trouble than she was already in.
But as she turned her memories upside down to look for the information she had heard from anyone, some charts of it came back, making the panic that was settling down slowly but surely take an acceleration. The things she had heard of that one group closely matched with the idea she got of that man standing before her, holding her horse and knowing exactly who she was. He just confirmed that by calling her name, asking her to set foot to the ground. But that wasn’t a question, she felt the remaining warmth in her body evaporate under his deadly eyes that seemed to have a purple sheen to them. After a slight doubt Fay threw her leg over the saddle and glided off the safety that had been provided by the little horse. Holding a rein, knowing the horse would run off as soon as she could. ’What do you understand by civilized?’ She asked after, turning towards the man. Very unsure of her words and what to ask, feeling smaller by the second. But his words gave some hope to the lady, looking up again. ’A deal?’ She pushed her back towards the horse, feeling the warm creature breath as heavily as she was doing. What were the plans the man had? But more importantly, what would it mean for the darkhaired lady?
