Legends are made Empty Legends are made

Just looking at one of the servants was enough to get them all out of the room. It was not like she had ever raised her hand against them. She never even touched them or raised her voice. Nerma mostly ignored all the servants, did everything herself. They weren’t even allowed in her room. Not because she had something to hide, but because she wasn’t used to having servants around. She didn’t have servants in her homeland, she didn’t have servants when she served in the army. She just didn’t  want them in her room because she would notice it. She would notice someone had been there and it would drive her mad.

Servants were a lot smarter than one would think. Not one of them questioned her, asked her why she needed the whole room. They just stopped with whatever they were doing and left. Good, now she could just wait in silence for her king to arrive. King Aristide. Had she expected him to become king? No. Was she surprised when they chose him to fulfil the role as king after Thriumph Medici? Maybe. The elf had known Aristide never wanted to be a king. He had been the youngest council member and in her eyes, he was still just a child. The fact that he couldn’t even properly control his magic, only confirmed it.

And a king who couldn’t use every part of his magic in his advantage, was a weak king. There was a reason why she had offered to help, to try to make sure others didn’t see him as nothing more than a child.

(Something that was quite ironic since people always thought she was a child when they first saw her.)

Nerma placed herself in one of the chairs in the room. An empty room. The only furniture present was the chair she was sitting on and the one that was standing in front of her. She crossed her legs over each other and started to read the book she had taken with her while she waited for Aristide to arrive.

"What hurt you once will hurt you twice.
This is not the beginning but the beginning's end."
When looking at him, even a child would see his insecurities. There was no hiding it or he had no idea how to hide it. It was all so very new for him and he wasn’t used to all those eyes on him. All those expectations he wasn’t sure he could accomplish. People put their faith in him and all he could hope for was that he lived up to those expectations. He had to be smart and thoughtful. Most importantly, he needed help because this was something he couldn’t do alone and Nerma was perfect for the job. He trusted her with his life and that was all he needed. Maybe there was someone better, maybe not. Yet if he didn’t fully trust that person, it would do more harm than good.

He raised his hand ready to knock before he stopped mid-air. How many Kings knocked before entering? Weren’t they allowed to go everywhere, whenever they pleased? Even so, his hand made contact with the wooden door and he waited for permission before he entered.
Yes, he was King, but it was still Nerma and he knew how she was. She wouldn’t appreciate it if he walked in without knocking. It was only right that he showed some respect.

“Nerma,” he greeted his friend. For once he was able to put a smile on his face. A genuine smile, not one that was filled with all kinds of thoughts. “I hope you’re ready for the most difficult task of your lif[e,” he joked. There was so much he could do with his powers and he didn’t even know half of it. Not that he was a disaster, but he could do better. Should be better. He really hoped his friend could help him with this. You never knew when you needed it.

”Come in.” She didn’t even looked at Aristide when he entered the room. Her eyes kept sliding over the sentences. She even turned a page and read that one too before she closed the book and finally looked up at her king. Some might think she didn’t treated him with the respect he deserved. He was her king after all. He could have her head if he wanted or banish her. He could do all those things and yet she didn’t get up when he entered. She just kept seated, the book in her lap while she looked at him.

”You really have faith in yourself, haven’t you?” A faint smile curled around her lips. It was a small smile, one that wasn’t visible if you didn’t know where to look. The corners of her mouth were slightly curled up and her eyes crinkled a little at the corners. Aristide knew her well enough to notice those changes. Nerma always had been cold. She rarely smiled and there were enough people who were actually scared of her despite the fact she was mostly smaller than them.

Nerma gestured to the chair across from her to let him know he could sit down. ”You humans should learn to be a bit more confident.” Because it was clear she wasn’t human even for the people who didn’t know her. Her features were sharper, her eyes were a different shape and if you looked close enough, you would notice the pointed ears that peaked through her hair.

The elf crossed her legs over each other while she just looked at the young king for a moment. ”Try to empty your head. Your magic will never work properly if you’re thinking too much about things that have nothing to do with it.” That’s how her magic worked at least. That’s how she learned to use it properly.
