WE SWIM AGAINST THE RISING WAVES
and crash against the shore
Finally Lexa had given in to her tiredness. If they hadn’t been in the Watch, she would have probably pushed herself to stay awake. Because she felt like she had to be available for her people at all times when she was in the Heart. Which was exactly the reason why the two had traveled to her home instead of staying in her room in the other village. No one dared to bother her here, and if they did, he would make sure to catch them before they woke her up. She was still recovering from her battle. Even though her wounds were partially healed by the Mountain Man, she had still lost a lot of blood. Which was exactly the reason why he was on his way outside.
Because he was getting to the point where he didn’t completely trust himself around her, at least not when she was sleeping. When she was awake and actually talking to him, it was way easier to control it. She was Lexa when she was awake. Now that she was sleeping, she was also way more vulnerable. Not able to defend herself. It wouldn’t really matter when he lost control, but she could at least stop him verbally. The vampire cursed softly, flinching when he heard his own voice. Oh no, bad language! He sighed and shook his head lightly, before heading towards the door. Her spear was, as usual, leaning against the wall. Curiously he picked it up. Of course he wouldn’t actually use it, but he wanted to have a closer look. It was not as if he had anything else to do in the meantime. So, with the weapon in his hand, he walked outside. Holding the weapon in the moonlight was enough for a vampire to inspect it properly, so he did, not really paying attention to anything else at the moment.

Run for your life, lock your door and stay inside. Save yourself if you can, 'cause your god has a heavy hand.
The moonlight was the only thing saving them from absolute darkness at night, where the man found himself outside his house more often than not. The Commander worried him, as she seemed to keep risking her life for her beliefs. In his life, he had seen multiple Commanders pass. While the one before her hadn’t been the greatest, the one before him, in turn, had been more like her. Someone who believed in something. Someone who died for her beliefs. And that was a future Lexa would share with her, if she kept walking the path she did. While he had, in a past long ago, been interested in becoming Commander, he no longer cared for its politics. As time went by, the man cared for his own beliefs. His right and wrong differed from those their people had, more like Lexa’s. But, her safety was his top priority. And he couldn’t guarantee this if she made enemies on the inside too, by making an effort to change their beliefs.
The man found himself slowly walking around the town, eventually unconsciously making his way to the home of the girl he had sworn to protect. A young woman now, yet he would forever see her as someone who needed his protection. Like a father to his daughter. So, when he noticed the damn outsider standing there, he could feel the hair in his neck standing up. His nails found their way into the flesh of his palm as he walked up to the outsider without a second thought, raising a brow as he stopped in front of the man.
“Shouldn’t you be heading home, boy? ”

It saddened him he was not able to get in bed with her. The lack of needing sleep would not stop him from having her in his arms while she got some well deserved rest. From time to time, he actually managed to get into the vampiric substitute for sleep as well. He just feared that he would be tempted too much by her presence. Her warmth, slow breathing and especially her heartbeat would lure out the monster. He would not put her, nor himself, in that position. The smartest thing to do was take some distance, preferably even going outside so he could get some fresh air. So he did exactly that.
With the spear in his hands, he was trying to get himself distracted from the thirst. Inspecting the craftsmanship that had gone into making this weapon. Carefully, he placed his thumb against the blade. Ah yes. Sharp, of course. At least he was smart enough not to push too hard because that would.. Hurt. The sudden voice of West had made him tighten the grip around the spear, causing it to leave a small cut. Quickly he let go of the tip and clenched his fist, knowing it would heal fast. Too fast for a human. So he pretended nothing was going on when he met the gaze of the man standing in front of him. ”Not before she’s feeling better”, He replied to his question, trying to sound a bit more confident than when they had spoken earlier that morning.
