So this was the man that had conquered Allison’s heart. Not for a second he doubted this whole ordeal was her idea. She had always struck him like someone who was ambitious enough to pull something like this. It didn’t seem like this new Duke was all too happy with his newly acquired position. Though it was possible this was just his general expression. It also didn’t look like he was too pleased with his little comment either. Romeo could only pull up the corner of his mouth in a mocking smirk. Sure, he was playing with fire here. He had a deal with Allison, not with her husband. If the other wanted to throw him in some kind of dungeon, would the brunette even stop him?

The Duchess started explaining who he was exactly, without considering the fact he could hear whatever she was saying. A fiery one. He had almost commented on that, when she mentioned his payment again. The Captain nodded. ”Aye, let’s not waste any more precious time. I’m sure the new Duke and Duchess have more important matters to attend to than a simple pirate like me”, He grinned. Would he ever behave? Most likely, no.

This guy. He liked him. Though that might be a bold claim to make. So rephrase, he liked him better than the previous Duke, so far. At least he had no stick up his.. ''Glad these street rats have the goods to pay you?'' Kaz interrupted his thoughts. Romeo chuckled, almost amused. Allison demanded them to stop. Was he taking orders now? Just a bit. She was still the one who paid him. If he had to bite his tongue for a minute so he could actually get it, then sure he would. Money made the world go around, and it kept the fiery types calm.

“I hope you’ll soon come with something worth some extra coin, Romeo,” Allison smiled at him. A warning in disguise. She wasn’t pleased with him and he knew it. “I don’t have your money right here, though… So you’ll have to walk with me for a bit.” She continued. The man repressed a sigh. If she had planned on paying him, she would have the money right here, wouldn’t she? Was this some kind of trick to show off what she now possessed or? ”Sure. I love sightseeing”, He said, a bright smile around his lips. As fake as hers, of course.

It amused him how his presence had such an impact on the new Duke. He was annoyed and he didn’t try to hide it. It only encouraged him to make it worse though. Testing his limits, subtly, as Allison was still with them. He would gladly spend some time alone with the man, to find out how much he could really take. Though it was a bad idea, considering the fact he had a whole battalion of guards that wouldn’t hesitate to lock him up in the dungeons this place surely had. What Romeo didn’t know, was the true nature of this man, a vampire. He might be impulsive, and not the kindest of people, but he wasn’t stupid. He had tried to fight a vampire once, and it hadn’t turned out that great. He had learned his lessons from it, and if he had known Kaz was a vampire, he wouldn’t challenge him unnecessarily.

So in a way, he should thank the Drowned God for putting Allison in between them today. At least she was keeping them both in check, while handling the situation professionally. He appreciated her efforts. When she addressed him with a smile, he started walking with her. ”When a bunch of armed men, wearing the uniform of a ruler, invade your ship unannounced..”, He started, shrugging lightly before continuing. ”We’re pirates. Usually they don’t bring good news, so we only defended ourselves”, He explained. Perhaps next time she could send someone who wasn’t wearing the colours they all despised down at the harbour.

It was pretty clear this whole conversation had brought up a subject the Duke didn’t know much about. Yet. Which was kind of amusing to him. As an outsider to their relationship he had no idea what was going on, but he realised he had put them both in a position they didn’t want to be in right now. Not when he was still present and able to hear every word they said. Would this be brought up later tonight, when he was sitting in some bar enjoying his payment? Probably. And he thought it was hilarious. Though he kept a straight face, except from some teasing grins towards Kaz when he saw it fit. Getting on his nerves while he couldn’t do anything about it, yes, today had turned out to be a good day at last.

The man came with some very useful advice, which Romeo decided to ignore while he started walking behind Allison. ”Fair enough”, He shrugged when the Duchess told him to prevent the event from repeating itself next time. Meanwhile, she was taking him through endless hallways. ”Why are castles always this ridiculously huge?” He sighed. Yeah, he much preferred living on his ship. At least he didn’t get lost there.
