Re: Nightly adventures [Kaz]

They only had to turn one corner and walk one more hallway before the staircase would pop up. After that, they would have time to admire the night sky as he had done a few days before. Somehow up on this cliff he felt more connected as he saw the twinkling objects in the sky. They still didn't mean anything to him, but it gave him some time away from his thoughts. He could count them, he could name them, he could just stare. But overall, his gaze always seemed to wander down below to the city. The city he was supposed to protect while he couldn't even protect himself. Or that was the feeling he had.
Walking here now in the dead of night, it was harder to orientate. But thank god for his vampiric senses as the halls seemed to lit up themselves as they walked further. They had reached the corner now and without saying anything, Kaz turned, expecting for the woman to follow him like she had been doing until now. He laughed softly at her question, looking back at her. ''This is not something that is easily fixed, trust me.'' He scoffed, lookign away again as his eyes found the place where they needed to go. It wasn't far and they reached it sooner than he expected. The staircase was round and well lit, as if it had known they were coming. ''Maybe somewhere in the far future..'' He added a bit absentmindedly as he halted before the stairs, gesturing for the woman to go first. ''After you.'' A warm smile on his lips, as if he was about to show something he had never shown anyone before. Like it was their little secret. Truth be told, this was only his second or thrid time going there. Not so much of a secret.

gathers her strength from distress,
and grows brave by reflection
How much Fay tried to remember the turns, which way they were heading, she had absolutely no idea where she was going. The lady couldn’t remember that her discovering the castle in D’auvignon was so hard, but she had a feeling that doing the same with this one would be quite difficult. If not, impossible, so to speak. Back “home” she knew every room, from the worker ones to the big bedrooms, every little sweet spot where she could hide if she wanted to. Here it was just one huge mess, a chaos of hallways. Making her have to rely on the man that was leading, making her have to trust him on his intentions, and that he was really taking her to the place he said so. Not a position Faylice liked to be in, but there weren’t much other choices. At least not now.
As he turned around the corner, Fay followed as natural as she could. Really keeping an eye out for where he was going, with all the reasoning behind. Having that little bit of silence that wasn’t a grim one, but just a pleasant one instead. Her question raised a laugh, one that made her gaze at him almost misunderstood until the further explanation came. ’I didn’t say fixing things would be considered easy.’ Fay airy said, a little smile playing over her lips, her gaze searching further for those seconds long before they looked at the staircase. The light coming from it couldn’t be called dim anymore, as her eyes were so used to the soft lighting. ’What is going to change in the far future?’ She just asked, tilting her head slightly as she looked back towards the man. Taking the gesture with a little broadening of her smile and a nod before she began to walk the stairs. It had been a while since she had really watched the stars, in peace that was. Realizing she was quite longing for it, especially in combination with the fresh air.

They were almost there. At times like these, Kaz was thankful that his leg had healed when he had turned. Walking was a lot easier now that he didn't need extra support. Stairs? No problem. It didn't take him half an hour anymore to get to the top. He was just as normal as everyone else when it came to physicial appearance. But the rest and everything that was inside couldn't be more different. The less he thought about it, the better. Right now he just wanted to pretend he was normal in hopes of feeling normal for a change. And it seemed to work as the woman besides him didn't suspect anything. Now to keep it that way.
Just before they wanted to get up a level, she had to ask him what was going to change in the future. And honestly, Kaz had no idea. He just wished and hoped that Allison would come up with something, she always did. He had put all his faith in her and even if it would take her years to find a cure, he would wait patiently at her side. Kaz looked over his shoulder, as if he suspected someone to eavesdrop on them, but once again his senses told him they were complete and utterly alone. ''Best not to speak of that here.'' He said softly. He didn't want to bring up his condition at a meeting like this in the middle of the night. ''It's all speculation anyway.'' He added with a mumbled as they started to climb the stairs.
Once at the end of it, the staircase revealed an open room that obviously didn't get used a lot. A few candles were burning, but it was not enough to illuminate the room fully. There were some books and bookshelves here and there, dusty carpets, a seating area but overall it was mostly empty. The notable thing about this room was the many windows it had and the doors that lead to a small balcony. Perfect to just sit and watch. Subconciously, Kaz faintly smiled as his eyes wandered the room. He really needed to show Allison this room. She would probably love it. ''So,'' He spoke after a silence, letting her get accustomed to her surroundings as he himself slowly walked around the room. His gloved hand trailed over the back of the couch. ''Do you have a name?'' After all, now he truly knew that they were alone, perhaps a part of the veil could be lifted.

She smiles on trouble,

gathers her strength from distress,

Although Fay didn’t feel the strange atmosphere she was so afraid of, since it came from a man she didn’t want to encounter, there hung a certain mystery around the man. Apart from the fact that he was a stranger, something that brought enough mystery alone, there was something about him she couldn’t exactly lay her finger on. A million options appeared in her mind, questioning why he was here and if that was by his intentions. For all she knew he could be a hitman, a murderer in order to kill a royal. Or maybe he had taken advantages from the shift of rulers, like the lady herself had done in a certain way. The fact that, if he really was someone who came to kill, she’d be already dead if she was on his list. Which was a thing that eased her mind, weird as that felt.
But along the mystery came Fay her curiosity, something that always stood in the way of her and safety. She simply couldn’t help but dig into something just because she wanted to know. A quality she had in one part, because it lead her into knowing more than what the other would expect. A danger in the other, it had caused trouble in her whole life, just because she couldn’t let go of something. Making her find out things she really didn’t want to in the end. As the man looked over his shoulder she looked along, seeing nothing more but some of the edges of the hallway that were lid op by the candles. The rest was all darkness, a particularly quiet one since no one seemed to be around. The words that came after made her frown, looking back to the side where the man stood. ’Why not?’ Even though she spoke soft, her voice had gotten a little sharper. Though she could barely hear the mumble after, she still did. Instead of stop walking the stairs she gazed on. ’Must be a hopeful speculation then, if you say it like that.’ Fay pointed out almost absent.
Once in the room the dark haired lady looked around, squeezing her eyes to discover more details despite the lack of lighting in the room itself. Quite a deserted one, she concluded by how it looked, which was a thing that brought her peace as well. That along with a little bit of stress, having to trust the man that lead her here. Still it seemed like he took her to the fresh air and stars just like he said he would, easing down that distress almost immediately. Stopping her movement Fay let her ice blue eyes roam around, gazing at the different windows and the stars lurking behind before her attention fell back to the man who spoke again. Letting her get distracted by the hand running over the couch, she thought about what answer she would give. She wasn’t one that would lie easily, but giving her whole name could interrupt the easy-going conversation they were having. ’Yes, I have.’ She smiled, saying that like that was a surprise. ’You can call me Fay.’ She said after, a little bit more serious. ’You happen to have one as well?’ Fay held the little playfulness in, gazing up towards the man again.

Re: Nightly adventures [Kaz]

As he stopped walking, Kaz wondered what purpose this room had filled before he had taken place on the throne. Would it have been visited often? And if so, for what purpose? This room didn't look like it had one solid purpose, more that it was used when someone needed a break from something.. or someone. The room was too dark to read the titles of the books, but Kaz decided to pick one up anyway. A frown appeared on his face as he noticed he didn't even understand the first word written on the front. He seriously needed to work on that. Quickly losing interest, Kaz let the book drop on the couch again, turning his attention back to the woman. He had left her question from earlier unanswered, simply not wanting to dig into that subject right now. It would probably set her off too.
Of course she had a name, he would have been surprised if she didn't. But it was also obvious that this woman tried to hide something, so he expected her answer not to be the full truth. Which brought him to the question if he had to tell her who he was exactly. If he revealed now that he was the Grand Duke of this whole place, she might act very differently. If he didn't, there was also the chance that if he only told her his name, she would connect the dots herself. But it was a risk he was willing to take. If she were to act differently, it was her loss, not his. As the woman, who now bore the name Fay, asked him for his own, Kaz smiled. There was a mischievous glint in his eyes, as if he dared for her to know he really was. ''A pleasure, Fay,'' He said as he lightly bowed as a joke. ''You can call me Kaz.'' Would the name ring a bell? Or would she simply think he had brought up a fake as well? After all, he had walked around with this name for years now and yet only two people knew that it was a straight up lie. He liked to keep it that way.

The room reminded Faylice to one of the “secret” rooms back in the north. It was quite a hidden one, only accessible by a single door around a corner no one really walked. Somewhere on the highest level the castle had, in one of the farthest wings the building had. A place she had so often visited, because no one really knew that it existed, making it the perfect little escape. Eventually, some staffmembers had found it as well, since Fay had gone missing more and more, trying to hide away from all the other problems. On days like those it seemed like that was the only thing the lady wanted to do, and now that place appealed to her again. It had a little window underneath a little stone bench she could curl up on and watch the stunning view. Knowing a place like that existed here as well, soothed Fay quite a lot, if only she would remember getting here again, that was.
Her question got ignored, and Fay could’ve blamed herself for it, for not asking directly to the man, but more so in the air as she was facing the stairs. Still, it bothered Fay in some manner, because she wanted to know almost desperately. But it also told her he probably didn’t want to answer, or didn’t want her to know. Which was, probably, the better option for now, even though Fay didn’t like it at this moment. Deciding to leave it she still remembered, saving it in her thoughts to fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle later on. At least, that was her plan. The ice blue eyes fell on one of the bookcases, being surprised it only showed up in her view just now. Walking towards it she touched one of the spines of the book ever so softly, as if the book might fall apart if she wasn’t that careful. Dragging her finger down one, the dark haired lady let her hand fall down after. Thinking about coming here somewhere around daytime as well so that she could dig into some of the books. As she saw the man grab a book, it sparked her interest once again. ’Do you read?’ The lady asked, curious as she was. It wasn’t that she was a huge reader, she still enjoyed a book from time to time.
Now the stranger knew her name, not her full one that was, but it still could be recognized. She had become rather careful revealing that, as her name could have quite the impact. Especially when she called her last name with it, a name which seemed to have a curse with it. None of the reactions Faylice could be nervous for happened though, she only got a smile she answered with one of her own. Answering the words and gesture with a light nod and bow herself, the lady smiled broader. There were no signs he knew who she really was, giving her the hope she could really do better here in Rhoynar. ’Kaz it is then.’ Fay laid a note on the name, ringing a vague bell somewhere in her chaos of thoughts, but not enough to make her worry.

Books had never been his thing. Kaz hadn't learned to read or write before hell had gone down in his village and he was thrown into this miserable thing called his life. By the time he had ended up in the orphanage in Navarre, he had only learned to write his own name and even that looked horrible. It had been Ambrosia who had taken him under her wing and had learned him the basics. But it had never gone any further than that because by the time he was ready to advance, Kaz had ran away again. Afraid of the monster he had become, he had thought that it had been best if he was off alone. So, when Fay asked him if he read, Kaz laughed and shook his head, leaving the books be.
He turned his attention towards the young woman, a crooked smile on his face. ''If you want to discuss books, you are better off with my wife.'' He lightly joked as he walked towards the balcony. Though it didn't look out on the sea like most of the balconies did in this castle, it gave a cozy view of the city down below. Soft lights emerged from it, telling them that people had lone gone to bed and that only drunkards and other awful folk were roaming the streets. ''No, I can barely read.'' He then confessed with a sigh as he looked at the view. A hint of disappointment had sounded in his voice. Someone with his title should be able to read and write properly and he could do neither of those. The vampire looked over his shoulder at Fay. ''Can you?'' He asked her as he put his hands on his back and let his body relax a little. Everything was fine. For now.
