"it's okay now. i'm here," she whispered softly, holding the baby close to her chest, rocking her gently. from that day onwards, neema, but a child and orphan herself, started looking after hidde, feeding her, clothing her, protecting her and loving her. it wasn't easy, raising a child with no penny to your name, but somehow neema made it work. though she usually managed to do some odd jobs here and there, neema had to resort to stealing every now and again as well. when hidde was about four years old, she started helping out wherever she could and for a while, all was well. but the streets aren't always as nice to kids. neema had caught a bad flu earlier that week and there just wasn't enough money for medicine. one morning neema's sickness had gotten so bad, she didn't stop coughing for a solid five minutes and hidde didn't have to think twice. she set out to bring in some more money and quickly made her way to the marketsquare. though neema was practically a queen among thieves, hidde never really was as good at the sport. she managed, but had almost gotten caught on a few occasions. and luck didn't seem to be on hidde's side. the man who's wallet hidde was trying to steal had not given her much room for error. she almost had it, when he turned around and grabbed her wrist. tiny and underfed as she was, hidde slipped out of his grip and sprinted back home as fast as her legs would carry her. neema saw the scared look in hidde's eyes when she finally burst through the door and she knew things had gone awry. sick as she was, neema quickly ushered hidde to crawl under the bed and to be silent. not a few seconds later the man from before barged into their tiny cottage. "you," he raged, pointing a perfectly manicured finger at neema. "how dare you try to steal from me, streetfilth?" with angry strides, he marched towards the sick girl and punched and kicked her to the floor, before dragging her by her hair out of the small home, never to be seen again. after that, hidde couldn't stay in d'auvignon anymore, the memories and guilt eating her up. she moved to sundarin in valyria and tried to make something of herself, like she knew neema had wanted her to. she started learning how to read, albeit slow and without proper teachings. she tried to not resort to stealing as much anymore and did her best to earn money legally, though it was hard for a child her age. especially since jobs seemed to be running thin as it was, with the growth in population. when hidde was twelve, something happened that would change her life forever. she was walking home late one night from her current and rare odd job, when she was suddenly grabbed by her arm. a man, at least thrice her age, a cigar hanging from his lips, looked her up and down. he took the cigar from his lips and licked his lips. "you look like you could need some money," he stated and started pushing hidde back to the wall, trapping her with his arms on either side of her head. "um, no thank you, i'm fine," hidde mumbled and tried to duck under his right arm, but she never stood a chance. he punched hidde in the stomach and let her drop to her knees. "good girl," the man said, a smirk on his lips. he started removing hidde's and his own clothing like his life depended on it, before putting his sigar out on thin girl's hipbone. hidde kept struggling and screaming for help, but no one ever came. when all was said and done, hidde was left alone, bruised, broken and bleeding, a few coins and banknotes tossed on her seemingly lifeless body. for weeks hidde kept to herself, out of sight of all and anyone. she felt used, filthy, useless and so so stupid. how could she have let this happen to her? it took another few weeks for hidde to find out she was pregnant. at first, hidde didn't know what to do. she hated it, with all her being and wanted to get rid of it. but she couldn't and she knew it. because how was this child to blame? it wasn't. the man who had done this was. so hidde decided to keep the unborn baby. she could totally do this. after all, neema had been about the same age as hidde was now when she found her. hidde's mother might have dumped her, but hidde refused to be like that woman. after a couple of months, the pregnancy being hard on the twelve-year-old's body, a babygirl was born who hidde named fen. the months that followed were tough and times were hard. how had neema ever managed? jobs were nearly impossible to get by, especially with a young child strapped to your back and stealing never really brought enough money to the table. hidde was struggling. every penny that she managed to obtain went straight into buying milk for fen, her own breasts had not yet developed quite enough for breastmilk. hidde barely ate and was so so tired. she didn't want to, but there came a point in time where she was left no other choice. with great reluctance she started working at a brothel. and though the money was now a bit more steady, hidde hated every minute of every day. the only joy, the only source of light in hidde's life was fen. little, innocent fen. fen was a good six months when she got really sick. at random intervals, she would just stop breathing, her face turning a shade of blue and purple. her skin was covered in colorful spots and small wounds. she sleeped nearly constantly and only rarely cried. hidde had given fen all kinds of medication, but none seemed to work and one day, fen too, like neema, was gone. for the first while, hidde just cried and mourned. she had failed the most important thing in her life. so worthless, so filthy and so so stupid. some time later, hidde started throwing herself in work, to forget and slowly, but surely she actually seemed to manage to do so. and so she drank, she had sex, she danced and sang and laughed. she seduced any man, and woman for that matter and enjoyed life. when hidde was nearly sixteen, she was hired for her services by this very, very rich guy. he was friendly and nice and not even that bad looking. he said he had enjoyed her company and would be back for her, before paying up a big wad of money for her favours. most men usually came back only once or twice, hidde not being the most cheap of all, but this man kept coming back. one time, two times, three, six, ten, fifteen times until... he took hidde to his home in archeon as his own personal servant and concubine. hidde didn't exactly get payed much, way less than what she used to earn anyways. instead, she got to live in a big mansion and even had her own room. she had food, drinks, new clothing and even hot water! sure, she had to wait on sir valnaris' hand and foot, share her bed with him every other night, but life... was actually pretty good. two years passed and sir valnaris' got married. she was a beautiful woman, with long dark hair and an almost royal air to her. she didn't know about hidde being her husbands concubine, and sir valnaris thought it best it stayed that way. as far as ma'am valnaris was concerned, hidde was just another of her husbands personal maids. m a g i c [elemental control] hidde's element is water. however, she tends to mainly use the solid aspect of her element, ice. she is proficient with both water and gas, however, as well. hidde enjoys creating flurries of snowfall inside her room or ice cubes for her cooled drinks. when she was still living out on the street, hidde often used gas as a way of warming herself. h e a l t h physical ailments n/a. mental ailments borderline disorder & PTSD (comorbidity of 56%). addictions n/a. allergies n/a. blood type ab+. sleeping habits very light sleeper. tends to turn and toss around nearly all night. blanket hogger. exercise habits regular. eating habits eats very little, but likes nearly all foods. emotional stability questionable. sociability excellent. is quite charming and has no problem starting conversations. drinks alcohol?
