Cesare Alderisi twenty-two Cartographer Half-blood François Arnaud playby Celeste | B A S I C Name: Cesare AlderisiPronunciation: [tʃɛ-za-re] [ɑl-də-riː-si] Age: 22 Zodiac: Virgo Gender: Male P.O.B: Forlindon, Nymmerwell Residence: D’Auvignon, Navarre Sexuality: Closeted homosexual Relationship status: Single Family: - Primus Alderisi (father) S P E C I E S Species: Half-blood (human/elf)Specifics: His father was a human from D’Auvignon; his mother was an elf from Forlindon. Even though his mother was an elf, Cesare has almost no elven traits. He lacks the pointed ears and the above-average height. It does seem like he has inherited his mother’s longer life-span. The cause for his lack of elven appearance seems to be his father’s human genes, which were dominant, while his mother’s elven genes were recessive. A B I L I T I E S Magic: NecromancyProficiency: Good. He doesn’t use it often, especially in a busy city like D’Auvignon where anyone could see him, but he has used it on the road when set upon by bandits. He can usually command up to two resurrected corpses at a time. Weapons: One-handed, dual swords, bow and arrow Proficiency: Dual words > one-handed > bow and arrow. He can hold up his own in a fight and usually win, though he’s a better tactician than he is a fighter. P E R S O N A L I T Y + Kind Most of the time, Cesare is a very gentle creature. He’s the type of person to come to a stranger’s aid if they need it without asking for anything in return. He watches out for his neighbours and friends alike, no matter the time of day or the situation.+ Protective If Cesare feels close to someone or something, he’ll do his utmost to keep them hale and hearty. He is attentive to their emotional and physical well-being. If anyone tries to harm someone he loves or take something he considers his away from him, he’ll make sure they understand clearly what mistake they’ve made, no matter what he has to do for it. + Hard-working He doesn’t like being idle. He likes his work and he likes being busy, so he’ll spend most of the day in his workshop working on his maps or travelling around to expand on them. He gets restless whenever he has nothing to do for an extended period of time. + Analytical Cesare is a tactician by heart. He has a sharp mind, thinks things through before he acts, and considers his words carefully. He tries not to let his emotions rule his thoughts and decisions and is fairly apt at closing them off whenever he needs to make important choices. - Impulsive On the other hand, he can be fairly impulsive, usually whenever his temper gets the better of him. When he’s angry, his bright mind seems to shut down and his rage seems to fuel his actions. In those instances, he only stops to consider what he’s done after he’s already done it. - Vengeful Cesare holds grudges like it’s nobody’s business. If you’ve wronged him once, you can be sure he’ll hold it against you until he’s gotten back at you for it. He’s a firm believer in ‘an eye for an eye,’ though he usually takes it to the next level to make sure that whoever wronged him will think twice in the future before doing it again. - Control-freak There is very little he trusts other people with, be it in a professional setting or a more private one. He likes being in control of a situation; he even gets antsy and irritated when something doesn’t follow his expectations and wishes. He doesn’t take orders well and only barely heeds constructive criticism. H I S T O R Y Twenty-three years ago, an elf by the name of Aegwë fled the house of Primus Alderisi in D’Auvignon, where she had been a servant ever since her teenage years. The lord of the manor had never been unkind, but he was strict and traditional, even if he had taken her to bed about a year before. He had never been overly careful, perhaps assuming Aegwë took potions against conception, which she usually did. At some point, however, she hadn’t been able to get her hands on a dose. One thing led to another and Aegwë found herself falling ill more and more often without a discernible cause, until a healer told her she was with child.Primus was a rich man with a young wife but no children among them. Aegwë knew he would not look kindly on a bastard child who could threaten his standing in society and, fearful he would force Aegwë to terminate the pregnancy or otherwise harm the child once it was born, she fled the city and made the long trek back to her ancestral home of Forlindon, which she hadn’t set foot in in over ten years. The elves there, though, didn’t take kindly to Aegwë’s return, especially when it turned out that her child had been sired by a human. She became an outcast, living on the very edges of the wood in complete solitude. She delivered her son, whom she named Cesare, without any outside help and raised him on her own. Cesare was a quiet child with a keen understanding of his mother’s silent suffering. He was aware of the amount of times elves came to their door to demand they leave the city entirely, even though Aegwë always told him to hide and not to worry. From a very young age, his mother trained him in weaponry and in necromancy, even though it was a forbidden magic; she told him it was so that he would always be protected, though she also cautioned him never to use it unless it was a matter of life and death. All the while, the elves from the heart of the city kept coming, their presence an ever-looming cloud over Cesare and Aegwë’s lives. When Cesare was fourteen, his mother passed away after a wasting illness that had been plaguing her for several months now. Cesare had offered frequently to travel to the city to get her medicine, but she had forbidden him, saying he wouldn’t find any help there anyway. Left alone, Cesare gave his mother the appropriate funeral rites before packing up his meagre belongings and leaving Nymmerwell far behind him. He went to D’Auvignon with the intention of seeking out his father, whose name Aegwë had given him from a very young age. He had no illusions he would be welcomed with open arms, but he wanted to see his father at least once. He found the man in his cartography workshop in the centre of the city. There was no doubt the man was his father – Cesare looked exactly like him, give or take some twenty-odd years. Primus immediately recognised him, too. With a resigned sigh, he only asked who Cesare’s mother was. When Cesare told him and related what had happened to Aegwë, Primus beckoned him into the workshop and offered him a cup of tea. As Cesare had expected, Primus didn’t take him into his home and wouldn’t formally acknowledge Cesare as his son. On Cesare’s insistence on using his father’s surname, Primus began passing him off as his nephew. He did allow Cesare to sleep in the workshop and work with him during the day. Cesare proved adept at making maps and, to his surprise, found it was something he enjoyed. As he grew older, he started to travel to familiarise himself with the continent so he could put greater detail into his maps, and he began taking on assignments of his own with Primus’s blessing. When he turned twenty, Primus formally left him the cartography business so that he could retire. Cesare has manned the shop on his own ever since. T R I V I A + Though he studied under his father for many years and was left the cartography business, Cesare doesn’t actually like the man much. He blames him for both the death of his mother and the life he had forced her and Cesare to lead in Nymmerwell. He has never said so, though, as he is acutely aware he would have been living on the streets if not for his father.+ Though he was sorely tempted, he never used his necromancy on his mother immediately after his death, mostly because he knew it wouldn’t make any difference, as her consciousness had already left her body. + These days, Cesare mostly makes maps on request, as he finds he has little patience for the marketplace. Far better to have clients come to him than the other way around. + Cesare has never been with a woman before. He’s gotten close a few times, but found he couldn’t ‘perform.’ He doesn’t want to acknowledge that he has felt that stirring in his lower belly when confronted with some men; he insists he simply hasn’t found the right woman yet. |
