I'm gonna raise the stakes

He bored her. The man had given up. The fight he had put in mere seconds ago was gone now and all the willpower had vanished from his eyes. He had accepted the faith that was coming to him and, frankly, it had helped her anger a lot. Yet, she believed in punishment. An eye for an eye. Even after she had given him multiple ways out of this, he had refused. Rudely. He had tried to stab her, successfully hit her with a knife and he had given her a headbutt, out of all possible fucking things. Her blood had boiled and now it was time to let out the steam.
She was going to get it over with. The blade was removed from his throat and she turned it in her hand, so the sharp part would face down. “Today, your future will be decided by luck, ” she spoke calmly. “Will someone help you before you bleed to death? Or will someone end you while you’re down? ” A smile worked its way onto her face. She clearly found joy in the power she got out of this situation, but it was also noticeable that it was already starting to bore her. Now that he had given up, he had no value to her. She didn’t want him to die, however. She wanted to see him again and see the fear in his eyes when he noticed her. See what harm she had brought to him. And there was one way to make sure he would never forget.
When she stabbed him in his left eye, it was quick. It would still hurt like a thousand hells, however. She didn’t pull out the knife, but instead gave it a slight twist, before she let go of it and calmly stood back up, looking down on the man for a few seconds. He had paid for his mistakes with an eye. If he ever found himself in debt with her or her boss, she would make sure his other eye was next. She calmly walked up to his sword and picked it up, before walking away with it. That one was hers.

WHAT IS DEAD
may never die
Confusion. The blade was lifted from his throat, her words held a message he did not yet understand. What was she up to? Couldn’t she just do whatever she had to do and end his miserable life? Did she have to be so cruel to extend it even more? He was ready to go. Ready to leave this fucked up world behind. Nothing had prepared him for what she did next though.
The knife transfixed his eyelid, as he had closed it out of reflex. It didn’t stop the knife from going all the way through his eye though. Romeo gasped for air when the intense pain flashed through his whole body. His muscles tensed and he screamed. A raw, almost animalistic sound that expressed the pain he was in. When the weight was gone, he rolled on his side, the blade falling on the ground. It was a bloody mess. He brought his hand to his eye, but as soon as he touched his skin, a new wave of pain shot right through him. Leaving him hot and cold at the same time. All throughout, he whined in pain, mumbling incoherent words.
The sharp pain isolated him from what was happening around him. It was cutting right through him, pulling him under. Soon, Romeo went into shock. The realisation that his eye was damaged beyond repair, along with the suffering that came from the wound, was just too much to handle. He lowered his hand again, putting it in his now limited field of view. It was bright red, even in the pale light of the moon. Blood. He could feel his stomach turn, his throat was closed shut as if someone was trying to choke him. His hands started to shake, and eventually his whole body followed.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally got his breathing under control. Somewhat. He had to go. He had to reach his ship. A groan was audible as he pushed himself up. Dizziness made it hard to keep his balance. How was he ever going to make it? But he had to. There was no other way. It was getting there or die. The pain was unbearable, and he had to force himself way beyond his own limit to walk. He managed to stumble through the street, down to the harbour. It wasn’t that far, but when he finally got there, he was exhausted. The pain had drained him completely. He could see the familiar shape of the Shark, but he didn’t get much further than the beginning of the scaffolding. With a loud thud, he fell down on the planks. Hopefully, it would draw attention. From the right people. He needed help, yet he couldn’t find the energy to scream again. The sound of running boots on wood was the last thing he heard before he finally gave in to the darkness pulling him under.
