Miss Missing You
The grim and cloudy weather was almost screaming that it was going to snow. Rhys squinted his eyes to look at the sky,
to see if it hadn't already started to snow because with the weather lately, you could never know. His hand was on the heft of his sword, relaxed, yet always ready to draw for any oncoming danger. Right now it felt like he was the only one around this part of the castle. Everyone seemed to have hurried inside and warm themselves by the fire. It sounded tempting to him, but it wasn't until a couple of hours until his shift ended. For now it was patrolling the gardens, looking at dead leaves and sad flowers who desperately tried to survive this cold. His breath made little clouds in the air, disappearing as soon as Rhys focused on it. It wasn't his duty to stand here and admire a cold and dying garden, it was his duty to walk around,
to make sure there were not threats. And if there were, he was to eliminate them. Simple as that. It was a good idea to walk around, at least then some warmth would sneak into his bones. He sighed, adjusted his posture and reinforced his grip on his sword. Then, he started walking. Again. That was what he had been doing this past morning and that was what he would do this upcoming afternoon as well. His stomach growled, food was welcome around this time, but he had to wait for another full hour to have something that looked liked a break.
Rhysand turned a corner which would lead him to another part of the outside of the palace, expecting it to be empty as every other place he had seen today. Yet, he was, almost, unpleasantly surprised to almost bump into someone. His reflexes kicked in and he abruptly halted, his heart almost skipping a beat by this sudden rush of adrenaline. The grip on his sword intensified, but then relaxed, seeing the familiar person standing in front of him.

.Thriumph Medici. with flesh and blood, I commanded an army It were quiet times, now that the winter had finally arrived the roads towards the castle were almost empty. Of course the trading routes had run like they did in the summer, supplying the whole of D’auvignon with foods that couldn’t handle the harsh winter climate and frozen grounds. The snowy landscapes made laid a silent blanket over the wildlife. Many slept through the coldest periods, somewhere in the relatively warm grounds. Navarre was in these months not very attractive to visit, mainly cause of the heavy temperature changes. So that meant for Thriumph he had some calmness settling in, which was all the more danger that came along it. He knew that if he’d weaken, or lose concentration for one moment he would lose his throne, his crown he allowed nobody but himself to have. After assuring the military status was still the same, Thri decided to leave the castle for a little walk outside. The cold air welcomed him like a wall was he stepped through the door. It always was refreshing to go for a round if it was this cold, it was like the cold had extra oxygen with it, clearing up minds like some kind of magic. It also made good practice for his guards. Well, it wasn’t a very nice thing to do, but that being said, Thri wasn’t a nice man after all. And it was still necessary, the cold was just an extra factor. As the man walked he started to wonder where Rysand would hang out around the gardens. But just as he thought about it the man came around the corner, clearly shocked by meeting anyone outside. With utter ease Thri let his blue eyes glide towards the tightened grip and back to his face. ’Good to see you’re still sharp.’ He said, rather emotionless leaning towards his cold sarcastic edge his voice had. ’Any abnormalities seen outside?’ |

The winters here could be brutal, he knew everything about it. Growing up without a home always made you afraid of the cold, of knowning that the summer you were living in then, could be your last. He almost froze to death once and now Rhysand was determined to never let that happen to him, or his sister again. He saw the cold as an enemy who maybe could not be defeated, but he could arm against it and brace for it like every other problem he had found on his path.
It was ironic how he had ended up here. Started out on the streets, trying to keep Nesta and himself alive while his father drank himself to hell and now, here, all geared up, sword at his side and tasked with one of the most important jobs in the kingdom. Oh, how life could be unbelievable at times. Just as it was unbelievable he almost bumped into his employer, into the king himself. He should have been faster, be more alert. But he had been dreaming. ''Ofcourse my liege,'' he replied, nodding, before his eyes went over his surroundings, seeing if anyone else was out and about, if someone could hear their conversation. But there was no one, at least, that was what it looked like. ''Nothing out of the ordinary, sir, everyone seems to be looking for a place with warmth.'' A place where he wasn't supposed to be at this moment. No, he just had to keep walking in this godforsaken cold. But then again, it was cold. So what was Thriumph doing here? Was it just a stroll? Checking if he was actually doing his job? Or was there more? Rhys bit his lip, not wanting to let the questions get out of his mouth. ''Is there anything I can do for you?'' was what he asked instead.

.Thriumph Medici. with flesh and blood, I commanded an army It was quite deserted around the normally vibrant gardens the castle of D’auvignion had. Normally, Thriumph wasn’t very font of walking in them very often. Especially in the spring and summer, when the flowers had their easy times and bloomed with their colors flaring up the whole landscape around them. The fall was the season he enjoyed more, seeing how the wind took away the leaves from the trees, setting the tone that those easy times were over. And now, in the winter it was maybe the favorite time of Thri, and not just because of the extra oxygen it seemed to give. Even now when the snow had laid a blanket all over the landscape, here in the high north. ’They seem to miss the valuables that the cold has to offer.’ He replied to the mans words. Although the warm had comfort in it, it could make one out of focus, dreaming away at the flames that created that warmth. Thriumph could see the curiosity the man in front of him had, but he seemed to keep the questions to himself. Which didn’t irritate him, which was a good thing. ’I was just taking some fresh air, and I figured you would be somewhere around here.’ He spoke, probably answering to some of the questions Rys had to him. His voice cold as always, it seemingly was a normal thing he developed over time. ’You can join me in my little round.’ Thri answered, while he started to walk on the same pace he had before, assuming the man would follow. |

Miss Missing You
It was easy to see that Rhysand felt awkward and that he didn't really know what to do with his body. He kept his back straight, his eyes determined and his hands on the heft of his sword, but that was all. Meanwhile, his head was a mess, trying to look for every reason the king would be out now and if he had ever done something wrong. Maybe Thriumph was just here to toy with him, torture him and put an end to his mistery. But for what? Did he know about Rhysand's necromancy? From the outside Rhysand may be appear calm, but on the inside it was a hot mess. But he learned to hide his emotions, or well, he was learning to and still hadn't mastered it, so he kept pushing the feelings away. Surely, this would just be a normal chat and Rhysand had nothing to worry about. As always. Hopefully. And the king assured him of that. Just some fresh air. See, Rhysand was overthinking too much again. He silently exhaled a breath he didn't know he had been keeping in for so long.
The elf nodded when the king invited, no it was more forced, him to walk with him. And so Rhys did. With his hand this on his sword, prepared for any upcoming danger, he tagged along, adjusting his pace to that of Thriumph. It took a few minutes before Rhys managed to open his mouth and, hopefully, not say anything stupid. ''Word travels around here that Aeron Medici has returned.'' He started and he cleared his throat, his voice suddenly having become much softer than he had anticipated. The elf looked sideways to his king. ''Are they true?'' Was his question asked a few moments later, hestiantly. He wasn't sure if this would be a hard topic to talk about for Thriumph, so maybe Rhys should just start with setting up his will.

.Thriumph Medici. with flesh and blood, I commanded an army The gardens were almost too quiet, not a single animal had dared to go out for a little walk. Leaving the white blanket the snow had laid over being untouched. The only footprints around were from his guard, and now his were trailed along. As a cold wind flew by Thri pulled his coat closer to him, refocusing back on de man in front of him. The blonde man was curious, Thri could tell by the hesitant movements, the little spark in his eyes. But he held it within, probably knowing Thriumph wasn’t a man with much words. He followed his pace continuing his route he usually took. Thri was more outside than anyone expected. Mostly the early mornings or the darkest of the night were the moment he went for a walk. To think without having to speak to anyone that wanted to know what he was doing. Sometimes he even had his secret meetings with those everyone stayed as far away as possible from. But for this time he didn’t mind it too badly his guard tagged along. Still there were a few minutes that silence ruled the air between them. Inevitably Rhysand broke up that with his words. The corners of his mouth went up slightly, walking along his gaze still on the way ahead. ’I believe my brother never truly left.’ He answered, his voice with the same coldness as before. There were a few more moments of silence, as the man discussed with himself if he should go on, on that subject. ’He is a dangerous man,’ His ice blue eyes shortly searched for the man next to him. ’He leaves trails of destruction, manipulation everyone he needs to get what he wants.’ He spoke on, deciding it wouldn’t be a bad thing for his kingsguard to be that more informed. Even now, now that he had what he and his brother fought over for so long, still the rivalry wasn’t over. And it was questionable if that would ever happen. The funny thing was that he had more alike with his brother than most knew, and many didn’t have to know. It would only bring trouble, Aeron knew, and he knew that as well. ’Do you have any brothers, Rhysand?’ He asked, giving way to his curiosity as well. This could be interesting, and he never went that out of the way. |

Situations like these always made him uncomfortabel and uneasy. This wasn't just his employer who he was taking a stroll with, this was his king, the person he vowed to protect. If something would happen now, Rhysand had to act fast, he had to ensure the safety. The grip on the heft of his sword stayed, his eyes looking forward and at every dark corner and shadow they could find. It distracted him from the conversation, so Thriumph's words only got to him partly. But for what he understood, the rumors were true and that would mean Rhys had to be extra alert.
Who knew what Aeron was capable of. The young man nodded, confirming he had heard what his king had said. Rhys wondered that if he ever got eye to eye with the former king, what he would do. Would he just slash his head off and present it to Thriumph as a trophy? No, he wasn't like that. Not yet, at least. Thriumphs question surprised him and for a moment, Rhysand was out of words. He took in a deepp breath before answering. ''No, my lord. I have a little sister.'' Well, not so little anymore. She was two years younger than him, but he still saw her as his little sister. He saw her as someone who he had to protect, even though he knew very well that Nesta was capable of protecting her own skin. ''I would protect her with my life.'' he admitted. It was a weakness, if you wanted to get to him easy, you had to go to Nesta. What Rhys didn't quite understood, was why the question was asked. He looked sideways at Thriumph, his eyebrow slightly raised, but his question was left unspoken on his lips.

.Thriumph Medici. with flesh and blood, I commanded an army Thriumph is ice blue eyes gazed sideways to his kingsguard. He wasn’t a king that needed much support form his guards, they were mostly there to comfort the little things. But Rhysand was in his closest circle of ‘trust’ and was loaded with more than just the tedious things Thri was too lazy to do himself. He had more responsibility, needed to be capable to act in any situation, at any time, to protect him, the king. Thri saw how sharp the man was, looking at every dark corner they passed in the cold late night stroll. There was the curious side of Thriumph, that came out every once in a while. Knowing that there was plenty of information he didn’t know that, that could be of value to the man. And since Thriumph strived to know everything, his question wasn’t very unexpected, from his point of view though. The corners of his mouth curled up as he heard he had a little sister. Again he looked at the blond man next to him. ’Then I’d make it very sure she is safe,’ It was more a loose comment rather than a warning nor advice. ’You understand that her safety can be very fragile if someone else would find out.’ The ice blue eyes searched for reaction, any for him to jump into. Maybe this walk would bring him some extra value after all. |

His hand still rested on the heft of his sword, uneasy, tense but above all, weary. There would be no day in his life that he would not protect his king. Loyality went deep into his bones and it had to take a lot for him to change his mind. No matter what Thriumph would do, what he would become, Rhysand would be at his side. He vowed an oath and he wouldn't dare breaking it.
The young man looked over his shoulder, made sure he noted that no one was following them and returned to the conversation. It wasn't everday he was talking to Thriumph, but when it happened, Rhysand always tried to be his best self. He nodded, not sure what to do with Thriumph's words. He didn't need them, he knew he didn't want to lose anyone else. Not again.
The elve halted his steps, his heart skipping a beat while he stared at Thriumph. Found out what? His powers? The fact that he could control the undead? That he could let them rise up from the grave? It suddenly seemed to drop about ten degrees around him, his whole body tensed up while tried to hold his thoughts and emotions under control, who seemed to run around in his mind without anyone halting them. ''Found out what, Sire?'' Rhysand asked as calm and collected as possible, knowing full well that his whole reaction was probably a bit strange. Maybe Thriumph did know, maybe this entire talk was just a facade and he was about to get banished or, which seemed more likely knowing Thri, get killed. Even if that was the case, Rhys would stand his ground. He never had hurt anyone, that wasn't his intention. And if the king wished for him to be killed, so be it, because in the end, loyalty above all.
