Seven Nation Army Empty Seven Nation Army

zo maa 25, 2018 8:36 pm

The past days had been busy. Very busy. Arrangements were made, classes were given and Trys felt like he hadn't sat down properly in weeks. But tonight was different, tonight was the reason these weeks had been so crowded with assignments and places to go and people to see. The preperations were all in order, everyone knew their places and what to do.

The invitations had been sent out weeks ago and Trys counted on them all being here. How long had it been since a last, full meeting? A lot had happened since and it was about time they got together and discuss it. While his eyes wandered over the town deep down below in the bay, his mind was running overtime. Anything that could go wrong and everything he could do to prevent it, everything that could go right, smart remarks and replies to those remarks, he wanted to be ready for all. A sigh left his lips as he straightened his spine and held his shoulders back. His hands were folded on his back and with quick and big steps, Trystane moved out of his room, down the stairs and into the hall.

This night was only meant for fun, for banter and to catch up with each other. But anything was possible. He wasn't sure of how much they would drink, but he did try to get every pint and mug of ale available to Brightwater Keep. The last thing he wanted was a fight over some drinks. Drunk or not. Trys wasn't even sure if he even had met everyone before, but if not, tonight was the night. Trys couldn't help but feel nervous, while he shouldn't be, didn't want to be. Maybe it was understandable, maybe it wasn't.
He wanted to stop thinking in possibilities, he wanted to stop thinking alltogether. With one move of his hand he signaled his guards. ''Theyre welcome.'' He muttered, inviting his guests in for tonight. A last time he glanced at the dining table, before turning his back towards it, ready to open the rest of Rhoynar's rulers with open arms.

The truth doesn’t matter
ONLY WHAT THE PEOPLE BELIEVE

It had been quiet days, Evelyn thought by herself as she looked out over the seas, towards the never-ending horizons. Being practically dead for Cois meant that she had no business to attend to, no matters to take care of, no issues that needed to get handled. Like she had done in the years before, as she had slowly taken over her dads leadership. Now, there was literally nothing she could do besides being a lady at the court of Brightwater keep. Still, she could do her business there, but she had nothing to bring, which made It practically impossible do to anything. She was therefore rather surprised to get an invitation from the duke of Rhoynar.

Having next to nothing to do, gave the maids the space to put some extra care into her. The simple dresses she was normally wearing were traded for some more complex ones, featuring the best parts of her curves. Eve wasn’t used to the luxury the court of Rhoy had. Being on such a small island like Cois was there wasn’t that many staff, nor were there many events that demanded expensive dresses. Even though she requested to the maids to bring a casual dress, there were only a few things on it that were just that. But then there was this part of Brightwater that had its reputation to bring out the wild side of one, so why would the lady care?

With the sight of the sun touching the sea, Evelyn decided it would be time to head towards the location the invitation directed to. Soon the warm tones of the sunset would descend on the bright tones of the city. Before leaving it altogether, and letting the night and darkness roam free again.
’Evelyn Keightly.’ She spoke, to the guard she had just seen that morning. Her voice somewhat annoyed by the stiffness of  the man. After she got accepted the lady stepped in. Her green brownish eyes searched around the place, looking for Trystane himself. She was the first of the guest that came in, wondering who exactly was invited.

Hectic was an understatement for describing the chaotic mess that had been his life in the past few months. Then again, he couldn’t at all remember the last time he really had a break from anything. Desperately in need of some time off to kick back and shake off whatever was on his mind, he found himself resting his head against the window frame of the carriage he was in while mindlessly staring outside. Somehow, the slight bobbing of the carriage as it rode over the cobblestone roads managed to soothe him, and he swore he could fall asleep any time now.

It had been a few weeks ago since he’d received word from Trystane Bayard. An invitation for the rulers of all cities in Rhoynar to come together and have a few drinks, courtesy of the Duke himself. He couldn’t really recall the last time the lords and ladies of Rhoynar had come together, and there had definitely been some changes in their composition. Asher couldn’t say he was particularly interested in attending, but somehow Skaði had convinced him to go anyway. He shifted his gaze from the window to the woman sitting next to him, quietly taking her hand. He wasn’t necessarily in need of that kind of comfort, he just enjoyed touching her in every way possible.

Eventually, they reached the estate. The doors of the carriage were opened for them by the driver and Asher got outside as painfully slow as he possibly could. Once his feet hit the ground, he turned around to hold his hand out to help Skaði out of the carriage. He’d brought her here, despite knowing it was an absolutely terrible idea. Once word would get to his wife that he attended an official meeting with some other woman, she’d surely want his head on a stick, but for some reason he’d brought her anyway. The cliff the estate was built on allowed for a breath-taking view of the sundown, although he didn’t pay too much attention to it. He’d found his eyes to be wandering to something, or rather, someone else.

she's all alone in a sea of stars
and i would never grow tired of her
The young woman never expected such thing to happen to her. One day she was locked up in a ship that belonged to some slave traders and now she was sitting here, in a carriage that was taking them to the estate of the Duke of Rhoynar, Trystane Bayard. She had never heard of the man before, but that must have been because she had never interessed herself in politics. She was from the north, knew the important people in Falkreath but that was mostly it. Luckily for her, Asher had told her about some of them. Two of them she had already met on Isla de Juegas, and she didn’t really knew if it was a good thing to see them again. The idea of being the only person in the room without any title or knowledge about certain matters that would be discussed, stressed her out a little.

Picking a dress wasn’t easy, but some maidens that were appointed to her when they came to Brightwater Keep managed to work her into one she was okay with.  She still couldn’t help feeling a bit uncomfortable in the dress, but she knew she had to fit in with the other parties involved. Asher told her that there was going to be another woman as well, so she had to try and look like she belonged there as well. Something she wasn’t really that sure off. A shaky breath left her lips while she watched out of the window of the carriage. The road was bumpy and her shoulder touched that of the man next to her a few times, but it didn’t really bother her. She loved being close to him. A little smile crept on her face when she felt his hand on his, and she softly squeezed it a little while she looked at him. After a while her gaze drifted towards the window again, still holding his hand. They must almost be there.

The carriage stopped in front of the estate of the Duke and the door was opened for them. Asher got out first and definitely took his time doing so. It made her grin for a little while she watched him, smiling off her own nervousness. When he held out his hand for her she carefully moved out of the carriage, making sure her dress wouldn’t get stuck behind anything and would be damaged. She wasn’t planning on failing herself, and Asher, tonight. When she finally got to the ground she let go of his hand and looked around, suddenly feeling very small and unimportant again. She would stick close to him tonight and could only hope everything would be alright.

separate and ever deadly

Jasper couldn't help but feel quite amazed when he held the invitation in his hands. The duke of Rhoynar, Trystane Bayard, had invited him over for dinner in Brightwater Keep.

Rhoynar had always been a kind of mishmash considering the islands – families and dynasties scattered across the islands and peninsulas but none of them seemed to make an attempt to actually work together. Not until a few months earlier though – when Lord Morrigan of Isla de Juegas and himself had joined forces, to, well, get him Sunfall.

Jasper could imagine the Duke had heard of the conquering attempt of the island, of course he had – Romeo had assured him everyone who was of importance in Brightwater Keep had heard of the old ruling family of Sunfall fleeing the island. Maybe that had been the reason for the Duke to invite him? Because he wanted to get to know the new governor?

He had set sail for the capital a couple of days ago, the gorgeous city that once had been his hometown. Since Sunfall only had a few trading ships as the island's official fleet, it was the perfect reason for Jasper to leave the island on his own cog ship, that hadn't been used in a while.

The dark blue falcon-embroidered cloak he wore, an effort to appear a bit more governor-like, still felt as if it weighed a ton on his shoulders – as if it still didn't belong to him. As if it wasn't his to wear. Too regal, too expensive, simply too refined – a world of difference between the simple, monochrome linen or cotton shirts and clothing he used to wear when he was sailing. When he was just a mere smuggler in Brightwater Keep – his past life that seemed ages ago.

He stepped out of the carriage that had brought him as close to the cliffside castle as possible, raising his eyebrows in surprise when he saw the two silhouettes leaving their carriage as well, approaching them. The Lord of Isla de Juegas, accompanied by a woman.'Asher.' Jasper curled his lips up in a little smile. 'So you got an invitation as well?' He asked, almost relieved he wasn't going to be the only ruler present at the Duke's castle tonight. 'Miss...' He began, now turning his attention to the young woman next to him – who he only now recognized as the hot-headed brunette he met a few months ago at a bar in Isla de Juegas, just before he had met Asher. The dress she wore was beautiful, dyed in a rich and deep hue of burgundy he had never seen before – almost the colour of red wine. 'What a surprise to see you here again.'

A party. A party for all the rulers of Ryonar. What was the meaning of that? It was not that weird, but normally he wasn’t really invited to that kind of things. Previous rulers didn’t trust him and that made them very smart men. Now things had changed and he actually received a letter. At first he didn’t plan on going, but it was his curiosity that made him go anyway.

He’d arrived way too early, but time didn’t matter when you were immortal. A whole day was nothing. A whole year was nothing. He didn’t mind waiting for a few hours and doing almost nothing. He had looked around for a bit until it was time to go.

With slow steps, he neared the manor. His clothes were nothing special, just things he would normally wear. Immediately he noticed the other guest and the clothes they were wearing. It made him raise an eyebrow and also brought a smile to his face. All of them were rulers, or at least most of them. He knew two of them, but it came as a surprise to see the girl here tonight. Were they allowed to bright an extra person? If he’d know that was an option then maybe...who knew who he would’ve brought with him. Maybe a little snack for during the party. There were enough snacks around if he was indeed hungry, but not all of them would like it. None of them would like it.

He was looking at Skadi and maybe he looked a bit too long to be comfortable for others. The wink he gave her didn’t make it any better. That was before he glanced at Asher, the smile still there. Then he walked passed the three man. “The party is inside if I’m not wrong,” he said. It was only when Jasper was right beside him that he looked at him with that mysterious smile of his. But he kept walking until he disappeared inside.

With everything prepared, Trys had very little doubt anything could go wrong tonight. That was, if not everyone got drunk off their socks and stayed a bit civilised. But he had no idea if that was a possibility. It had been way too long since a meeting of this sort had happened with all the leaders of Rhoynar. Trystane might be at the steering wheel but without all these other rulers he wouldn't even have a ship to steer, so to speak.

With his hand neatly folded behind his back he had ordered the guards to welcome the guests, if they even had arrived yet. A smile appeared on his face when Evelyn decided to turn up. It would mean he at least wouldn't stand alone here. Though, she didn't seem to spot him, so Trys stepped forward, walking into her direction. ''I'm glad you could make it.'' He spoke as a greeting, though it wouldn't be too hard for her to turn up here. She lived with him now, after all the commotion it had been the best. The young man bowed, kissing her hand in the process. ''Your looking lovely as ever.'' He said with a wink, turning his attention to the door where the other guests had yet to appear. Trystane couldn't help but feel some tension packed in his chest and he made it clear by exhaling a little too long. There was no need to be nervous. Right?

Before he could say anything else to Evelyn, another figure appeared. Trys smiled, though it seemed a bit uncertain. He set a step forward, a way to greet the guest. ''Chief Valdimárr. Glad you could make it.'' Though Trys seemed to be stiff, he tried his best to welcome the chief, stretching out his hand so they could shake. He had heard enough of the man, but tonight might be the first time to experience those rumours in person.

The truth doesn’t matter
ONLY WHAT THE PEOPLE BELIEVE

This would be quite the interesting evening, to say the least. Even though the lady had lived in Rhoynar for her whole life, she still didn’t know anyone but Trystane. An odd thing to think about. Still, it was a mere fact the lady couldn’t do anything about, apart from changing it in the moment. So she stepped in, her green-brownish eyes searched for the man as she walked through the door. Assessing the room at the same time. Wondering if she would be the first to arrive, or if there were others already there. But surprisingly the only one she could find was Trystane, the host of this whole dinner. A soft smile appeared around her lips as she stepped closer. ’Well, there isn’t anything other for me to do anyways.’ She shrugged, Eve’s words playful as she spoke them. In the same movement she gave away her hand, bowing along in the sweet little moment. ’Those maids of yours did their best.’ Grinning with it. She wasn’t a lady that liked being in much luxury, but for those special events she didn’t mind.

Her smile faded, refocusing herself on the doorway as the next guest stepped in, straightening her back before she nodded at the man that came in. The Chief of Seere if Evelyn had it correctly in her mind. Joining Trystane’s side safely to shake hands as well, before she let her gaze shift towards the table and the bottles of wine. ’I sure hope you have the best bottles of wine from Cois here, I have some standards.’ Pointing her taste out, Evelyn smiled again as she looked back towards the man. Maybe they would care, maybe they didn’t, she did anyways and that mattered to her at least.

Paranoid as ever, he couldn’t keep himself from contemplating the reasons they were here. The leaders of Rhoynar hardly ever came together, especially not without reason. A few ideas crossed his mind, however, none of them were particularly pressing matters. Perhaps it had something to do with the recent ascension of Jasper Ethelwin as the governor of Sunfall. Asher had aided him in overthrowing the previous government, and to be quite honest, he had no idea what exactly the Duke of Rhoynar would think of it. If anything, Asher figured he’d be rather indifferent towards the matter. Most lords and ladies in Rhoynar didn’t concern themselves with the other islands, as long as the majority of the country wasn’t dead or dying.

Most of his worries disappeared for a second as he helped Skaði out of her carriage, briefly taking in the sight of her. She was stunning as ever, clad in the kind of dress he wasn’t used to seeing her in. Not that he didn’t appreciate the effort, quite the contrary. He could sense her slight discomfort as her feet hit the ground. This would be the first time she was to attend such an event, and he could imagine the reservations she had. A former northern slave wouldn’t exactly feel like she belonged anywhere near a meeting of Rhoynish rulers. At least she looked the part.

“You’ll be fine,” he quietly assured her. He knew she would be, unless someone were to provoke her. That might lead to an exciting turn of events. Asher turned his head as he heard someone approach the both of them, turning one corner of his mouth upwards in an amused smirk. “Jasper,” he greeted the other man. He hadn’t seen him since their little coup had ended. He nodded as Jasper concluded that he’d also received an invitation. “Afraid so,” he commented, as he averted his gaze towards Skaði, whose name was asked. He was sure she was perfectly capable of introducing herself, so he kept quiet. Jasper remarked that it’d been a surprise to see him, and Asher couldn’t help but wonder how his venture into politics was working out. “How have the people of Sunfall been treating you?” he asked, genuinely curious. The first days of a coup weren’t exactly the easiest ones, especially when the population decided to reject you.

Asher’s eyes were drawn towards another person who was slowly approaching them. He recognized him as the Chief of Seere. Apparently, Trystane had literally invited everyone. It didn’t escape him when the Chief kept eyeing his plus-one for a little too long. He might’ve gotten jealous or possessive if he wasn’t entirely convinced of her loyalty to him. The man didn’t greet them, only telling them in passing that the party was inside, after which he disappeared inside the manor. Asher looked after him for a bit, raising a curious eyebrow, but quickly fixated his gaze on Skaði again. “You good to go?” he softly asked her. He wasn’t sure how much mental preparation she needed, and as much as he’d love to stand around here all day, they had a certain obligation to attend.
