Dig up the bones,
but leave their soul alone
The girl was seated in one of the corners of the busy tavern. She was absentmindedly fiddling with the dirty, dented coin in her hand, wishing it were ten more. Todays income had been way lower than she had wanted it to be. It was the last of three days of a well-known market here in Brightwater Keep, which meant there had been a lot of people to steal from. However, Brightwater Keep was not only infamous for its markets, but also for its thieves. People kept their purses clutched in one hand, and their weapon in the other. Stealing might be even harder on days like this than on normal ones, and she was not about to lose a hand for reckless pickpocketing. She wasn't entirely sure if the losing-a-hand-for-stealing-punishment was one that was carried out often, but she also wasn't planning on finding out. The little girl moved het gaze from the coin to a woman, who approached her table asking her if she could get her anything to drink. Judging by her annoyingly common dress and pouch full of coins, this was the innkeeper's wife. "Yeah, sure. I'll get an ale." She slid the ugly coin towards the woman, not even making an effort to get up. She got a dirty look in return. After waiting longer than necessary - which was probably because of the bad manners she'd just displayed - her ale finally arrived. "Thank you ever so kindly." she said with the sweetest smile, after the drink had been slammed on her table causing some of the ale to spill. When the woman turned away from her, she gave her the finger. "Bitch," she mouthed, after which she grabbed the ale and started downing it in one go. She slammed the mug down as soon as she was finished, earning some heads turned her way. A grin crept over her face. Fifteen years old and already downing beers as if she was born to.

what is dead may never die
Occasionally he went to Brightwater Keep for leisure. This time he wouldn’t spend his time trying to steal valuable stuff, risking his hand if he got caught. Besides, on events like this one people seemed to be extra cautious with their purses. As if it would matter. An experienced pickpocket like him would get the gold anyways. He didn’t try though, this time. The good citizens of Brightwater Keep didn’t have to fear him today. Yet they did. His appearance played a key role in that. Having tattoos all over his body made him a notable figure in the streets. Somehow people were still prejudiced to link this type of art to criminals. They were spot on though, he was a pirate, that was true. But he didn’t shout that from the rooftops. Officially he was a simple trader. An armed one, but still. Pretty harmless, if he wanted to. The friendly smile around his lips was all but a decoy. Deep down he would kill for some entertainment, and that was to be taken quite literally at this point.
So he entered the first bar he could find. Upon entering the establishment, he heard someone bang a cup down on one of the wooden tables with enough force to make heads turn. His amber eyes settled upon a young girl. The smile around his lips quickly turned into a smile. Well wasn’t she adorable? She kind of reminded him of himself when he was younger and avoiding his mother by getting drunk at a bar. The young man walked over towards the girl. ”Aren’t you a bit too young to be drinking like this?” He asked her, but not in a demeaning way. He sat down without asking her permission and waved down the waitress. ”Two more of these please”, He asked her, paying her in advance, so she would hurry the hell up with those cups.

Dig up the bones,
but leave their soul alone
She could see someone approaching her from the corner of her eye. She expected the same waitress as just now, who probably wanted to kick her out with the lame excuse that she was being too loud. However, when she looked up, she saw it was someone who looked nothing like her. Her fingers quickly found their way towards her switchblade, knowing that everyone in this part of town could be dangerous. She wasn't a judging type, so his tattoos didn't bother her, it was his confidence that made her feel uneasy. He slid down in the chair next to her, and she gave him a bitchy look, while keeping her head high. If he was only here to annoy her with his condescending questions, he was free to leave. "I'm fucking not," she replied to him and crossed her arms, only making her look younger than she already did. He did pay for another drink though, which was good. She wasn't planning on drinking more than two or three, since she didn't come her to get drunk; she actually liked the taste of the ale, and it was a good way to live through the evening. She didn't like being on the streets at this hour. She was just a girl, with only a switchblade to defend herself. Now, she was quite skilled with it, but if someone decided to gang up on her, there was nothing the little knife could do.

what is dead may never die
Out of experience he knew how hard this life could be. A lifestyle he had been forced to take on in his early youth, and he suspected it would be an equally tragic story from her side. Not that he would care to ask her. It was her business and he knew better than to invade someone’s privacy, even if they were this young. He didn’t see her as a threat though. He just chose to let her be, keeping his questions to himself. She seemed inexperienced though. When her hand flashed towards her waist he knew she was carrying a weapon. So was he, but he kept his hands to his side without moving them towards his knife. Instead he just sat down, asked her if she wasn’t too young to drink. "I'm fucking not," She almost snarled at him, trying to look fierce. She had a long way to go before she would be able to carry herself in a way she didn’t look like she was trying this hard. But she’d get there, eventually. He had managed to shape himself into the way he was now too, with a little bit of guidance, but here he was. And he knew, without looking around, people were at least a bit uncomfortable in his presence.
The waitress came back soon enough with the two drinks. He picked up one of the cups and placed it in front of the girl. ”Good, then you can have a drink with me”, He said with a smirk. Not in a creepy way though, he would never hit on a girl this young. The young man took a gulp from the cup and put it back on the table, toying with it a bit after which he looked back at her again. ”Rule number one, never let your enemies know you’re armed. Reaching for a hidden weapon only gives away you’re carrying one. So unless you’re ready to pull it out and surprise your opponent, keep your hands away from it as long as possible”, He said, giving her advise she hadn’t asked for. He expected her to tell him she didn’t need his help, but deep down he knew she would probably follow his counsel anyway.

Dig up the bones,
but leave their soul alone
Despite her hand resting on her knife, she was quite curious about the man that so bluntly took a seat in front of her. It wasn't a positive curiosity per se, it was more like she was calculating what she was dealing with. She didn't like being alone, so it was nice to have company for a change, but that didn't mean she wasn't very wary of him. The young man placed a cup newly brought in front of her, and she grabbed it without a 'thank you'. Manners were not her strong suit, but she didn't need them, in this part of town. Just was she took a sip of the ale, a flood of words left the man's mouth. She looked at him while drinking, not feeling like putting it down as a formality to show him that she was listening. He knew she was. Else he'd be ignorant and obviously he wasn't, as he had noticed her hand resting on her switchblade. She put down the mug, now half empty, and mumbled a grumpy "Fuck off," as she did not like to be told what to do. However, she did move her hand a bit. She wasn't about to ignore his advice just because she didn't really know him.

If she decided to have a go at him, he would probably embarrass her in front of all these people. He knew how to defend himself, plus he was way taller and stronger than her. Then again, a small blade could do a lot of damage, if it was used correctly. If she could surprise him. But she wouldn’t, as she gave away the exact location of where she was keeping her weapon. Not her smartest move, but he had made the same mistakes when he was younger. Right up until someone said almost the exact same words he was sharing with her now. "Fuck off," Was the only thing she said, after she had put the cup down.
Exactly what he’d expected. He noticed she moved her hand away a bit though. To make sure she wouldn’t notice his smile, he took his own cup and drank almost half of it before putting it down again. ”You really want me to fuck off?” He then asked her, almost challenging her to say it again. ”I wouldn’t turn down someone who could offer me something interesting that fast though. You know, some people like to invest in others, so they can profit from it in the future”, He twirled the liquid in his cup around for a moment and took another sip. ”If I was to invest in you, would you be able to pay me back? Or would you just take the gold and run?” He continued, his amber eyes focused on hers, to see her reaction.
