The pull on my flesh was just too strong
Stifled the choice and the air in my lungs
Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie
People who were talking to you when you just woke up deserved a special place in hell. Not Allison though, he could forgive Allison. For now that was. If she would keep on doing it, he might have to make himself clear. Very clear. The vampire didn’t speak another word, which was pretty normal. When he would speak it was often just plain negativity about anything. It could be one of the most beautiful moments of his life and he would still point something out that was negative.
But being around him a lot probably wasn’t the brightest of ideas either as Allison suddenly spoke. The woman had lied down next to him and he had shifted his head so he could watch her, or just simply stare. But the words she spoke made him chuckle. ‘’Don’t be such a pessimist.’’ He mumbled as he yawned and stretched. Yet, he was careful not to touch her, or come even in close range with her at all. ‘’I’ll change, I guess.’’ He followed with a shrug, not really in the mood for it but he could guess where she was coming from.

Surrounded, but always alone

The higher you climb, the further you fall. But don't be ashamed of wanting it all. Cause the view from the top is beautiful but fleeting. Looks can be deceiving
At least Kaz was being himself, as quiet and grumpy as he always was when he woke up. She stared at the ceiling, raising her hand so she could look at her now clean hands again, carefully inspecting her nails to see there was absolutely no blood left. Which was probably useless, considering the fact that Kaz was not, in any way, going to be able to take a proper bath right now. And she was not going to stay here while he was still covered in old blood. It smelled and it must feel uncomfortable, too. The ink on his hand, the blood on his body. The least she could do was use a towel to clean it up as good as possible. It would be a whole lot better than digging into his wound, at least.
Being called a pessimist by Kaz. Well, that was new. He told her he’d change, which caused her to raise a brow. In a quick movement, she sat up again, sighing deeply. “I think we should get rid of the blood, ” she told him. She just… needed to get rid of that smell. Needed to feel like things were going better. Washing it off, both literally and figuratively. Well aware that the things he had gone through wouldn’t be washed off all that easily, sitting here with blood on his stomach that was days old… was probably not helping.

She kept on talking and apparently didn’t take the hint. Kaz needed time to wake up, even now that he felt wide awake as his vampiric senses kicked in he still needed to mentally prepare for the day. Or night for that matter. He wasn’t the kind of guy that woke up, got up and started to be social. He was the kind of guy that woke up, got up and tried to ignore everyone for the entire day, if not forever if he could. But people always found a reason to talk to him, much to his annoyance.
It was his turn to raise a brow as Allison told him to get rid of the blood. It was kind of obvious that that was the best idea. Did he like the idea? Not at all. But with every move he made he was painfully reminded of what was on his skin. It brought back vague and unpleasant memories. But cleaning up would be the worst as he would only be reminded of it more. And the last thing he wanted was to damage himself even more. Nonetheless, Kaz had no time nor the enthusiasm to start an argument so he nodded. And glared. Because Allison was to know that he absolutely did not like this idea.

Of course, she was aware how he hated waking up. But, once she had decided that something needed to be done, it was better to just go along with it. Which Kaz, luckily, seemed to understand as he nodded. His glare made very clear how he felt about the situation, causing her to laugh for a moment. “Afterwards I won’t bother you anymore, okay? ” she asked, a faint smile on her face. He could have all the silence in the world after that. For now, however, she wanted to rid this room of the smell as much as possible. And she wanted to see him heal, rather than still see this beaten up, bloodied version of him that they were trying to fix.
Quite enthusiastically for someone who hadn’t eaten all day, she jumped up from the bed and put the bucket next to the bed, before throwing the towels on a clean spot and taking place next to it. “Come on, ” she told him, a faint smile. “It’ll be over in no-time. ” Probably not. But, hey. They would get through this. The whole wound-poking incident was a whole lot worse than cleaning off some old blood could ever be.

She really wanted to do this right now. Her stubbornness sometimes attracted him but an awful lot of times he hated it. How could you even like someone that always the opposite of what you wanted? I mean, he should really look at himself if he was asking that kind of question, but Kaz, of course, saw himself as an exception. The vampire rolled his eyes, tried to stretch the moment for as long as possible but eventually gave in.
With a pained look and a groan, he got up. His back seemed to hurt more than ever, but for now he ignored it. It would heal. If he told himself that over and over it might even go faster. Carefully and hesitantly he pulled his shirt over his head, revealing his upper body. Besides the scars that already had been there and the tattoos, it was clear that the woman had made some new adjustments. The silver dagger had been stabbed in random places, no real pattern could be found. The only thing the wounds had in common was that they were covered in blood that had dried up days ago. The wounds itself had started to heal, but as the dagger had been silver, they would never properly heal and probably leave a scar. Kaz looked at Allison, as cheerful as he ever was. ‘’Get on with it then.’’ He grumbled. Clean now, questions later.

He was a vampire and because of that, she couldn’t treat this normally. They couldn’t find themselves a doctor to treat his wounds, as they would heal themselves. Way quicker than they would if she was the one wounded, but slower than they normally would on his. It was an interesting situation. And she knew that she would be able to help him with her Alchemy, but this was for tomorrow. With her current lack of sleep and food, she would not be able to even find the ingredients, much less so prepare them properly. For now, all she could do was clean them up. Luckily, his wounds would not get infected, so it wasn’t the biggest deal.
For once, he actually listened. He took off his shirt, revealing the complete mess that was his upper body right now. The scars were nothing new, but the wounds on his stomach… She couldn’t help but sigh as she saw them, shaking her head slowly. As she always did when she felt a bit nervous, she pulled her hand through her hair, looking at the dried-up blood. “This is going to take a bit, ” she told him. One towel was taken off the pile, which she dipped in the water before turning towards him again. “But it will be so much better. ” And with that, she gently pushed the towel onto some of the dried-up blood, hoping that getting it wet would help remove it.

He rather would have stayed in a coma for a little while longer instead of doing things like this. To be fair, he rather would have had that the woman hadn't dropped him off at the castle but instead just dropped him on the streets. It had meant he didn't have to come to terms with what he was for a while longer, nor did he have to face Allison or anyone else. Right now, Kaz just wanted to disappear.
His entire body language seemed to tell what he was thinking. The vampire looked gloomy and grumpy, which was his usual demeanor but this time it had something else to it. Like it was worse. He didn't even sit up straight but instead let his shoulders hang and avoided eyecontact. After this was done he was going to make sure he was alone. Hell, maybe he could even make it out of the castle and just go away. But he had the feeling that with one wrong step, Allison would immediately know. He let her do her thing, staring blankly in front of him. It was at this time that the thoughts overtook and he got in his head, not making this situation any better.

There would never be a day in her life where she wouldn’t worry about this man. It had only taken him a few meetings before he had intrigued her and by now, he was on her mind all the time. Worried, hoping that one day, he would find happiness. Be it within her lifetime or not. A scary thought, as she might not live to see the day where he finally would. But, she knew that this was just the way their lives had worked out. All she could do, was hope to find a cure before it was too late. But perhaps, after all of this, it already was.
Right now, she was worried too. No complaints, no witty comments. He just sat there, as if it all didn’t matter anymore. She placed her empty hand on the bed, leaning on it as she gently brushed the towel over his skin, quietly cursing the woman who had done this all to him. Like he was a puppet, just alive to send the message she had wanted to send. It was saddening to think someone could be that far gone, but she knew that this was something to break her mind over later. For now, she needed to be here. Not just physically, but mentally too.
For a while, she was quiet too. Every now and then she leaned away to get some of the water on her towel, but other than that she sat mostly still, just carefully rubbing the skin around the wounds with the towel. It didn’t come off easily, that much was certain. It was something to keep her mind off the worries she was having, but after a while, it simply wasn’t enough. “I’m sorry. ”

She hurt him everytime she put the towel on his skin. But he didn't budge, he didn't make a notice of it, he just let it be. This was just temporary, the wounds would heal eventually and he would continue to live on. If he wanted to that was. When she touched a spot where the dagger directly had torn his skin apart he seemed to flinch. But that was it, he didn't open his mouth or made known any other way that she had hurt him.
He seemed to come out of some sort of dream state when she spoke, pulling him out and bringing him back to the real world. Allison told him she was sorry and all he gave her was a confused look. She didn't have anything to be sorry for, he had done this, this had happened to him and probably because he had said the wrong words at the wrong time. Unless she had something to do with it. Maybe she had, baybe she had orchestrated it as a way to get rid of him. The confusion was replaced with a glare which then quickly vanished as she hit another hurtful spot. The vampire shrugg it off. Soon it would all be over anyway.

Even though she tried her best not to hurt him, it was inevitable. Yet another moment that reminded her of the way they were together. No matter how hard she tried, it seemed like it was never enough. There would always be something she’d do wrong. Maybe it was just the way she was, where she was fully incapable of helping him through anything, just here to make matters worse and rely on him when she was too fucking miserable to take care of herself. Or maybe these were just his words echoing in her head. After all, had he not been right? Was she not here for selfish reasons? Because she needed him? Maybe it wasn’t the same the other way around.
While they themselves were the poison, they were also the antidote. He worried her to the point where her head started to hurt, but he was also the only one capable of getting her to calm down. Not in this moment, however, where he only looked at her, his gaze filled with confusion. “Seems like I’m not good at looking after you, ” she told him with the faintest smile, looking at his wound instead of his face again, finding it to be the perfect excuse to avoid his gaze. He still looked miserable and she had no idea how to fix it.

There had been more moments like these. Moments where he wouldn't say anything and it was for her to guess what he was thinking. Was it good? Was it bad? They might never know as Kaz had always been a private person. So for now, Allison was still left in the dark while he just sat there and overthought everything. They seemed to have at least a little bit in common. Unbeknownst to himself, he had pressed his nails into the palms of his hands again. Though the wounds there had already healed, it didn't take long for his skin to break and small wounds to appear again.
She wasn't good at looking after him she told him. She was right, she was doing a horrible job. But who could blame her? She was doing all the work for her title and besides was also busy with whatever alchemy-business she had up her sleeve. Kaz had the thought that she was doing so much more than she revealed and he hated himself for it. While Allison was taking steps forward, it felt like he was only falling more behind and wasn't even being able to crawl anymore. The only thing she was getting from him was a shrug. After which he stared at the wall again. ''Not your fault.'' He replied to what seemed to be ages of silence between them. His voice was low and soft, not sounding like him.

Of course, she had been busy. Not just with her new tasks as a Grand Duchess, but with figuring out herself too. She was a living, breathing mess. Something she hadn’t been ready to show anyone, yet some had figured it out for themselves. Everyone told her the same. ‘You can do it. You’re strong.’ It didn’t quite help, only made her feel weaker for failing the image they had of her. She wasn’t strong. Quite the contrary. She tried to be, for him, but she kept pulling herself into this abyss of doubt, as if they didn’t have enough problems already. Miserable.
Not her fault. A sigh sounded as she softly shook her head. “I’ve been too distracted, ” she told him, almost in a whisper. “It all doesn’t matter right now, ” she softly went on. All the things she had broken her mind over, all seemed so small right now. As she brushed the blood from his body, wondering if he would ever be the same again. “Is there anything I can do? ” she asked, still refusing to look at him.
Not her fault. A sigh sounded as she softly shook her head. “

It felt like time was going slower than usual. It felt like he had been sitting here for hours and nothing had changed. The blood was slowly coming off, the wounds were slowly healing and it seemed like he was slowly getting better. But it was too slow. It had to be fixed now. Kaz couldn’t wait and neither could his mental state which was practically in shambles. Parts of it were rewired, parts of it tried to stay the same and parts of it had just completely gone missing.
She was making excuses, making sure that she was not to blame for whatever happened to him. He understood, he would have done the same thing. After all, no one wanted to be blamed for something they hadn’t done, or had for that matter. Just live a life free of worry, what a dream that would be. And a dream it would stay. Unless you died. But who knew what was beyond this life.
“Is there anything I can do?” Yeah, how about you shut up. But Kaz didn’t say that because Kaz knew that if he said that, Kaz would be a dead man. Instead, he shrugged again before answering. ‘’Stop making excuses. It happened.’’ He stated, again with a low voice. Gods, he really wanted to be alone right now.

Stop making excuses. It happened. This was Kaz. She needed to get used to him not being any kind of soothing, something she’d probably never be able to. So all she did was bite her lip, nodding once as she went on cleaning his stomach. It took a while to get the blood off, especially since she was trying not to hurt him, as she always tried. Even though she failed, she wouldn’t stop trying. Even when he deserved to be poked straight into the wound, she would try not to. Like the loving wife she was.
“Your stomach is as good as it gets now, ” she told him, after being completely silent for a while. Lost in thought, she took a new towel and dipped it in the water for a second. “Let me see your hand, ” she told him calmly, before shifting towards him again. Still, she didn’t quite meet his gaze, but instead kept her eyes focused on his stomach, unconsciously visualising what he must’ve gone through. Why couldn’t things ever go well for once? Perhaps it was time to leave everything behind, lock herself up in her home in Falkreath and care about nothing but her books again. Because that had been quite the easy fucking life.

No matter what he said or did, she continued to support and take care of him. What had he ever done to deserve this? To deserve her? What wretched god had he pleased or unbeknownst sold his sold to to deserve someone like Allison? Maybe that was why he pushed her away all the time. Because he thought he didn’t deserve her and she needed someone far better than him. Which was probably the truth but no matter which way he would bring it to her, she would deny it. They both had cursed themselves with this marriage, yet it had also been a blessing.
When she asked him to see his hand, he finally released the pressure he was putting on his palms. Though the blood wasn’t as worse as it had been on his stomach, it was smeared all over his hands again. Who cared, it would heal anyway. The fact only was, that Kaz did not show Allison his hand, but instead put it besides him on the bed. The last thing he wanted was to be touched. ‘’It’s fine.’’ He repelled, knowing full well that Allison wouldn’t like that answer. ‘’It will heal.’’ As if that was a valid argument.
